Need this one ASAP.
Though we were just treated to his first full-length live record, Live From Steel City, two weeks ago, many fans (myself included) have been patiently waiting for Charles Wesley Godwin to release new music for quite awhile now.
While we’re still waiting for the announcement of album #4, which Godwin confirmed is in the works earlier in the year, he’s been keeping fans satisfied with a plethora of different teasers throughout the year. Between the recently-previewed, “Every Once In Awhile” and “Better That Way,” as well as “Hallelujah High,” it’s more than apparent that he’s looking to out-do himself once again upon the release this next record.
Yesterday, Godwin took to Instagram once again to share another brand new song, “Try Again,” straight out of his notebook. In the caption, he noted that he wrote it with the incredibly underrated Travis Meadows.
“Straight out of the notebook. Wrote this one with Travis Meadows. A little cameo by Gabriel. Hope y’all are having a great Sunday. Enjoy!”
If you’re unfamiliar with Meadows, he’s written with the likes of Eric Church, Hank Williams Jr., Brothers Osborne, Blackberry Smoke, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Randy Houser and more on tracks such as Church’s “Knives of New Orleans” and “The Snake,” Bentley’s “Riser,” Brothers Osborne’s “While You Still Can” and Kenny Chesney’s “Better Boat.”
As for “Try Again” itself, the track is one that a lot of us can use nowadays. I don’t think it’s incredibly controversial to say that times haven’t always been the greatest recently. Between political violence, civil unrest and general uncertainty surrounding the direction the world is headed, it feels like we need to relearn how to pick ourselves back up and move forward. And here, Godwin encourages us to do just that.
Immediately in the first verse, he taps into a feeling of being lost and relearning how to trust again:
“Learning to trust. Ready to get back up
Hard things hurt, but my faith still works
I’ve had enough
Time to rise from the flames. My burning down was a shame
It did what it did and it is what it is
And there’s no one to blame”
The verse immediately transitions into the chorus, which sees Godwin boldly proclaiming his desire to reclaim his life without any worries or doubts:
“Think I can try again
Without asking why again
Start me over on top of the ashes
Let the healing in
Ready to fly again
With life in the eye again
Without backing down from what may come around
Or how it ends”
I’ve gone on record countless times saying that Godwin has yet to release and/or tease a bad song, and it rings true here once again. Fans in the comment section shared this sentiment in the comment section with many begging for it to be released as soon as possible.

Like a conversation with an old friend or a stiff drink after a long day, Charles Wesley Godwin never fails to show up just when you need him to. I think a lot of us need a reminder to keep going and keep moving forward when times are hard, and he does that brilliantly here on “Try Again.”
