Morgan Wallen is gaining a lot of respect lately, and this time it has nothing to do with a new song or album drop.
At his Cleveland, Ohio show on August 15th, Wallen surprised fans by bringing out Kid Rock, which was already enough to send the crowd into a frenzy. But what had people really talking was a simple hand gesture that connected the country superstar to one of college football’s most exciting players.
During the performance, Wallen pointed to his wrist like he was checking a watch, then lifted his first toward the sky. To most, it might look like just another move, but Browns fans immediately caught on. They knew it was a reference to Shedeur Sanders.

And here’s Shedeur himself doing it:

Now, to be fair, Wallen didn’t get the move exactly right. Shedeur’s version is more of a firm slap on the wrist, not just a quick tap of the finger. But it was close enough that fans immediately knew what he was going for, and they gave him major props for the shoutout.
The comments said it all:
“Everyone except for the Browns front office knows ball. Shedeur is a star, and I am sure they will find a way to fumble it!”
“This gesture was the first thing I noticed.”
“Love this and KID ROCK.”
Despite putting up huge numbers at Jackson State, Shedeur’s move to Colorado brought new challenges, and some critics were quick to downplay his game once the competition got tougher. On top of that, being the son of Deion Sanders has meant living under a microscope, with unfair comparisons and constant pressure.
Still, Shedeur proved himself to be a pretty accurate and composed quarterback in college football. Regarded as a possible first round pick, he ended up falling into the 5th round, with the Browns drafting him AFTER Oregon Ducks QB, Dillon Gabriel, who they took in the 3rd. It was the talk of the draft, and while many believe he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, that makes Wallen’s little gesture resonate even more.
Will he make the Cleveland Browns roster in that jam packed quarterback room? That remains to be seen… but at least he has a fan in Morgan Wallen.
