This is like seeing Alan Jackson without a cowboy hat on… it just does not feel right.
Riley Green has broken the hearts of women and mustache-admiring men worldwide today. And no, it’s not because he’s spilling the beans on his love life. He’s shaved his mustache. For as long as one can remember, Riley Green has sported facial hair to some degree. Even before he was a country star and appeared on the reality show Redneck Island, Riley Green still had some scruff.
However, the “Don’t Mind If I Do” singer has become a mustache icon in the past year. His stache, along with Zach Top’s and Braxton Keith’s, has become one of the most iconic mustaches in country music and has been a large reason for him scoring points with the ladies. Ahead of the ACM Awards, Ella Langley shared with fans that she’s the reason Riley Green has sported the mustache for so long.
“I will tell you, everyone’s excited about Riley’s mustache, you can thank me for Riley’s mustache, other than God, I guess, and his parents. The ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ music video, I co-directed that, and I just knew I wanted it to be an old western. And one thing about my dad, he was watching old westerns or a war movies on Sundays after church.
And so I just grew up watching them, and I love them, and it really does feel like, when I was listening to the song, I just thought of it in a bar, kind of how an old western is. I told Riley that he could not shave his mustache off at least for the music video, and so here we are still a year later he has it, it’s great. I don’t think he can get rid of stache, either. We’re stuck this way.”

Well, that last sentence didn’t age well…
Today, Green shocked the world by posting on Instagram to share his bald face. He looks almost unrecognizable in the image and paired the jarring image with a simple caption:
“Never let ’em know your next move.”
No kidding, I don’t think anyone thought this was a move on this gameboard.
To say that Riley Green broke everyone’s hearts is an understatement. Heck, even my boyfriend could admit that he had a killer mustache, so it’s not just the women mourning this loss (although it’s mostly women mourning this loss).
I just know I’m about to start seeing TikToks about how this is to get back at Ella Langley, given the narrative shift from lovers to the idea that they don’t like each other anymore. Maybe the man wanted a cool upper lip going into the summertime.
Either way, it’s a sad day for Riley Green fans. RIP the infamous mustache… until we meet again.
