Love a good celebrity-mix-up story.
This time around, the person in the middle of the mistaken identity was none other than Luke Bryan. Now obviously, we like to poke fun at the “Country Girl” singer here at Whiskey Riff. We just recently pointed out how surprised we were that Bryan passed on a song that was about trucks.
That’s typically right up his alley.
Unfortunately, Luke is one of the first names you think of when it comes to the “bro-country” movement of the mid-2010s, back when country music was just a non-stop string of songs about drinking beer, driving down a dirt road in a pickup truck and girls in cutoff jeans.
Another artist that got wrapped up in the horrible trend was Blake Shelton. In fact, it’s easy to get Blake and Luke’s music confused with one another – especially with the catalogues they both churned out in the early 2010’s. And as it turns out, it’s also not out of the ordinary for the two country artists to be mistaken for one another based upon looks.
That was made apparent through a story that Luke Bryan recently told and posted to his social media account. The 48-year-old artist was out on a little fishing trip with his son Tate, and before they got out on the water, the pair stopped as a convenience store for some grub.
That’s where Bryan was mistaken for a fellow country artist, as Luke explained:
“Story of the day… me and Tate, we’re fishing. Stopped by to get some snacks from the gas station. This kind of big guy, tatted up… he’s just staring me down. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah. He recognizes me.’ I walk up to the counter and he goes, ‘Man, God dude. You look just like Blake Shelton. You’re not Blake Shelton, are you?'”
First off, that’s hilarious. Secondly, it’s funny to hear the process that high-profile people like Luke Bryan have to go through when they’re out in public. It seems like there’s a constant “Do they know me? Or am I in the clear?” playing out internally all of the time.
Bryan thinking he had been recognized, only to be mixed up with Blake Shelton, was a nice comical touch.
And according to the rest of the story, Luke decided to play along:
“I said, ‘I’m not Blake Shelton.’ He goes, ‘You gotta get that all the time, right?’ I was like, ‘No, every now and then I get it.’ He goes, ‘You’re his doppelganger. You know who he is? He’s on that TV show.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know who he is.’ He goes, ‘Could you imagine what it would be like to have Blake Shelton’s money?'”
Yes, Luke Bryan could definitely imagine what it would be like to have Blake Shelton’s money.
I can only imagine how the gas station worker is feeling if he’s seen this video from Luke Bryan. There’s gotta be a little bit of embarrassment, but at the same time, his interaction with the country artist was enough for Bryan to make an entire post about him.
I’d say that’s a win-win for both Luke Bryan and the gas station attendant who thought he had met Blake Shelton:
