Acknowledging the award… kind of.
Morgan Wallen recently shared a carousel of photos on Instagram, which were pretty random, some being professional shots and some that were sitting on his camera roll over the last several months, including some shots from the studio, hunting, what looks like a beach vacation and even one of his 2024 CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year.
Of course, he won the coveted award last year, but wasn’t at the show in-person to receive it, and didn’t record a video message or anything for the audience that was there like most artists do if they have to miss it. You probably mostly remember Jeff Bridges calling him “Morgan Waylon” when he announced the country star as the winner, which is wild… like, who doesn’t know how to say his name correctly? It’s pretty simple whether you know who he is or not, and I would think you should at least know a little bit about him if you’re presenting such a big award, but I digress…
For a quick history in case you’re unfamiliar with their beef, for lack of a better word, he and the CMA have a pretty complicated history… in 2021, the country music superstar was banned from the attending the show after he was caught on video earlier that year dropping a racial slur. And the past two years, fans have sounded off after believing Morgan was snubbed from the night’s top prize, losing to Luke Combs in 2022 and Lainey Wilson in 2023.
I still don’t think we’ve ever had an EOTY just completely ignore the fact that they won, but as someone who doesn’t care about these Nashville award shows anyways… I kinda love it, and since Morgan very rarely does press and interviews, it might still be a while before we get any information on his thoughts and feelings about it.
For many artists, even some of the biggest mainstream stars you know, winning the EOTY is a bucket list thing, so it’s just very interesting for Morgan to have this kind of response, or lack thereof, but like I said, I can’t blame him for maybe being a little salty about it (well, I’m putting words in his mouth, but that’s how I’ve interpreted it all), considering how they treated him for a long while.
But in the Instagram post, Morgan did share a photo of the award with his name engraved on it, so we at least have proof that he received it in one piece and left it that way (I kid, kind of…):
“Lil this lil that.”
Morgan rarely posts outside of music updates or concert photos, so it’s a neat peak into what he’s been up to lately, and since he included the photo of the CMA Award, I have to think he’s at least a little bit excited about it and proud of it (scroll to photo #3 to see it):
Morgan is gearing up to release a new album called I’m The Problem, which will likely be released before he heads out on the road for his 2025 I’m The Problem stadium tour this summer. You can check out the full list of dates below.
He’s been teasing some of the new tunes from it lately, and I’d venture to guess the album will be out sooner rather than later, likely before his first tour stop in June.
