Nothing like making core memories out on the water.
Remember when you were a kid and you had something so exciting on the calendar that you would lay your outfit out the night before? I’m talking a field trip, or staying over at a friend’s house. Those were the things that seemed like the biggest events in the entire world, am I right?
One of the other things that would be highlight reel worthy was a hunting or fishing expedition with the ol’ father or grandfather. We might not have realized it back then, but with hindsight, those were the moments where we really learned a lot about life. Though school is great, nothing can teach you patience and focus like a day out on the boat, or a morning up in the tree stand.
If I really got the memory bank of your brain going with that, just wait until you feast your eyes on this heartwarming fishing video that’s getting a lot of attention online. A father and son were out on the water, wetting lines and watching the day go by when the little kid experienced the best moment of his life… so far.
Evidently, the youngin’ had never caught a fish over five pounds. Judging by context clues from the video, that was one of his goals as they were out fishing that day, and in the blink of an eye, he was right in the middle of a fierce fight with a bucking largemouth bass.
Even as the boy was battling with the fish after he successfully set the hook, he was already guessing that the bass that was putting up one heck of a fight was over five pounds:
“I think that’s five.”
His father calmed him down and told him to stay close, quickly grabbing a fishing net to help bring the fish into their boat. Eventually, the father and son fishermen were able to successfully land the fish, and both of them could hardly contain their excitement.
As the dad got it unhooked (amidst a celebratory screaming frenzy), the little kid provided some commentary on how his catch came to be… and he admitted that he was a little nervous about the official weigh-in that would happen a couple of moments later:
“I’m shaking. I saw it flash and I just left it still. And then this guy came in and slobbered it.”
And just about when the young guy was getting done telling his fishing story (he’s already got the art of the fishing anecdote down if you ask me), the father had gotten the hanging fish scale attached to the largemouth, and it weighed in at a whopping 5-pounds and 12-ounces. High fives and hugs were exchanged, and it’s truly a precious moment shared between a father and son.
