Once again, are we sure this isn’t Alan Jackson’s son? From one mean mustache-sporting machine to another, Zach Top knows good classic country and is well-versed in the facial hair behind the men who sing these twangers.
Zach Top has solidified his name as the artist bringing back that nostalgic ’90s country sound. Although he’s noted numerous times that he never wanted his sound to be a ’90s gimmick, he grew up listening to the same music they cut their teeth on, which has translated through his music.
“Obviously, I’ve got sonically, a reminiscent sort of thing going on from the ’90s stuff. But I kind of…I feel like I cut my teeth on the same kind of stuff the ’90s guys cut theirs on.
For one thing, I’m honored that people see me as sort of a spearhead or a leader back towards traditional country music or country music the way that I feel in love with it and, you know, still love. It’s a fun spot to be in, and I think it’s a lot of just the right place at the right time sort of thing.”
Zach Top is not only reviving the sound but is also a fan of the stars from the decade that defined the traditional sound we all know and love today. He is a true country superfan and proved it during an interview with a Portland radio station.
The station presented ZT with a game, asking him to identify country artists based on their mustaches alone. This is a tricky task. We all know ZT for his signature facial hair, but many artists will switch it up or only sport facial hair for a phase of their career.
However, Zach Top made light work of this game. At one point, the radio host, Nick, noted that it would get more challenging but quickly ate his words as Zach Top easily identified the men based on their facial hair.
From Garth Brooks and George Strait to Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, and more, Zach Top went seven for seven on this game. These radio show hosts are going to start pulling obscure artists to test Top in the future.
Laying it down while all casually sipping whiskey…Zach Top is such a vibe.
