Callin’ it like she sees it.

Miranda Lambert knows a thing or two about the music business after two decades doing it at this point, and she’s great about bestowing all of her knowledge on younger artists that she really believes in.

In an interview with People a little while back, her duet partner and fellow Texan Parker McCollum talked about his friendship with the country superstar and what makes her such a good friend and mentor. Parker says Miranda “calls [him] out on [his] B.S.”:

“I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time, and getting to sing with her on the CMAs [was] a dream come true. She’s a good friend of mine now, and she’ll call me out on my B.S. — that’s when you know somebody’s your good friend.”

There’s no doubt in my mind that is 100% true… obviously, she knows what she’s talking about, and I agree, that’s certainly a good measure of friendship and how close you are with someone. In this business, too, it’s pretty necessary if you want to have any sort of longevity at all.

Parker also talked about joining Miranda on a song called “Santa Fe,” which was included on her recent Postcards From Texas album, calling it a “dream come true.”

In terms of advice from Miranda, Parker shared that Miranda reminds him to slow down and enjoy the ride of making it as far as he wants to in the music industry, because that’s really what’s important when it’s all said and done:

“One time, Miranda said, ‘You just need to slow down. You got what it takes to get there, but don’t try to get it all today,’ which is probably exactly what I needed to hear and probably still do. You can get caught up and lose your sense of patience at times.”

Can’t argue with that…

Parker and Miranda also teamed up at the CMA Awards in November as part of the tribute to George Strait when he received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Parker is slated to head out on his 2025 tour in January, which will kick off in Georgia and end in April with a show in Florida. Of course, he’s been in and out of the studio, working on a new record which we should probably see at some point this year as well.
