Gotta be careful with those things.
More and more states are legalizing marijuana these days, both medicinal and recreational. Obviously that means it’s a lot easier to get, and in a lot of different forms. Gotta be careful what you eat now, because those brownies at your friend’s house could end up sending you to the moon – especially if you’re not used to edibles.
It seems that the legendary Reba McEntire even found herself in a situation where she accidentally got a little too high after not realizing what she was taking – while she was taking care of her sick mother.
Reba joined The Tonight Show last night to promote her new show Happy’s Place, and she told host Jimmy Fallon the hilarious story about the time she took one of her mom’s THC gummies, without realizing just how strong they were.
The legendary country singer lost her mother back in 2020 after a battle with bladder cancer. And Reba took some time out of planning for her upcoming tour to stay with her mother and take care of her.
As the singer explains, her sister Alice had told Reba to give her mother a gummy before bed to control her pain. But apparently, she didn’t tell her just how strong they were.
According to Reba, she wasn’t comfortable giving her a whole gummy, so she just gave her half – and decided to take the other half for herself:
“Boy, she just went to sleep. And I thought, ‘Well shoot, mama’s taking it. I need to see what she’s experiencing.'”
Asked by Fallon whether she had any experience with gummies, Reba admits that she’d taken them before in small doses, “maybe 2mg.”
Well Reba says that her mother woke up in the middle of the night, and that’s when she realized that things weren’t going as planned:
“Mama was getting up to use the bathroom on her little porta-potty, because she couldn’t walk very well. And so I said, ‘Mama, hang on, I’ll be right there.’
She’s like, ‘Oh, I’m good.’
So I threw back the covers, and that’s about as far as I got.”
I know exactly what she’s talking about – that feeling when you realize you’re way too high and don’t know if you can actually move.
Well Reba says she was able to carefully get off the bed and walk her way around. But then her mom had another challenge for her: She wanted some ice water.
Unfortunately for Reba, that meant having to not only walk out of the room, but also down the hall to the kitchen. And she didn’t see it going well:
“I looked at the door, knowing that, that’s a long way away. I got the hall, and then the kitchen. And you know how you can fast forward on something real quick? ‘Reba McEntire found in her kitchen, ice all around.'”
So Reba decided to pull a little trick on her mother, and just handed her the same glass of water that was sitting beside the bed – but mama wasn’t fooled:
“She took a sip and she went, ‘Yuck, where’s the ice?’ I said, ‘We’re out.’
She said, ‘We’re out of ice?!’ I said, ‘Yeah.'”
Well Reba eventually got them both back in bed (she admits that her mom really got herself back in bed), and she says that by the time she laid down she was really struggling:
“There was weeds and flowers growing out of my head.”
Doesn’t sound like she had a great time – and the next day she found out why.
Reba says that when her sisters got back, she asked them just how strong those gummies were – and they told her that they were 50mg each, meaning Reba had taken 25mg herself.
