Some great news to start off your weekend.
Last year, country singer Joshua Ray Walker announced that he was undergoing treatment for colon cancer. And while things appeared to be going well, he suffered a major setback when it was discovered that after 6 months of chemotherapy, the cancer had spread to his lungs and would be re-staged to stage 4.
Walker seemed to understand the severity of the situation, saying that he wouldn’t share the odds he was told because that “seems defeatist, and unnecessary,” but promising that he would tell us what they were after he wins his latest battle with cancer.
He underwent surgery late last month for a biopsy, and at the time he provided fans an update on the procedure:
“They poked five holes in my ribs, deflated my lung, sewed it back together, reinflated it, and they are going to be taking a drainage tube out of it later today.”
Well today, Joshua announced another turn in his cancer battle – and it’s the best news we could have hoped for.
According to the country singer, after undergoing the biopsy, doctors told him that their initial diagnosis was incorrect and that his lungs are cancer-free. And in even better news, not only does he not have cancer in his lungs but as far as doctors can tell, there is NO cancer left in his body.
Obviously he’s still not totally out of the woods yet, and he says that he won’t be totally in remission for another 5 years. During that time he’ll still have to undergo scans and tests, but the best news of all is that as of right now, his “life is not in imminent danger.”
Hell yeah, brother. You love to hear it.
You can read his full statement here:
“Hi y’all, thank you for your patience while I heal. I’ve been anxious to update you, but I wanted to wait until I was off pain meds and all the most recent scans, tests, and lab results had come back. I’m so excited to share with you that my pre-surgery diagnosis was incorrect, I’ve beat the odds and to everyone’s complete surprise, my lungs are cancer free!
As far as my doctors can tell, there is no discernible amount of cancer anywhere in my body at the moment! I am ecstatic, and I couldn’t have done it without y’all’s love and support. I won’t be in remission for another 5 years, and I will have frequent tests and scans done during that time, but for now, my life is not in imminent danger. That’s a crazy thing to say considering the odds I was told I was up against a little over a month ago.
The recovery from this surgery has really kicked my butt. All of the medical news, good and bad, has been an emotional rollercoaster. Thank y’all so, so much for your kindness and all of your donations. This has been a life-altering couple of months, but for the first time all year, it’s for the better! Your generosity is going to allow me to continue focusing on my health while I monitor my body for cancer and begin building my strength so that I can tour again.
My main goal now is to be the healthiest version of myself possible, and that would be an impossible pursuit if not for your help conquering the insurmountable financial situation I found myself in. Your donations have and will continue to help me pay my personal and medical debt. They will supplement lost wages and out-of-pocket expenses I’ve accrued since my diagnosis, as well as future expenses as I continue to heal. I’m so excited to be alive, I’m excited to share this incredible news with you, and I’m excited to make the most of this opportunity. I love y’all so much, thank you for loving me back.”
