Tippin’ her cap to the late, great Kris Kristofferson.

Today, Lainey Wilson released a cover of the country icon’s classic song “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” which comes around a month after he passed away at the age of 88 years old at his home in Maui, Hawaii.

Lainey definitely put her own spin on it, which, right now, is only available as an Amazon exclusive, but still stayed true to the classic country sound at the same time. She says it’s a tune she used to sing on her karaoke machine until the CD was so scratched she could only sing the chorus.

Lainey added that she hopes she made Kris proud with her rendition:

“I used to sing this song growing up on my karaoke machine until the CD was so scratched up that only the chorus would play. So many people have done their own version of this song. To me, that says a lot about Kris Kristofferson and his unique storytelling.

It was simple yet poetic, and it helped push boundaries in the country music genre. He was a pioneer, and a force for the outlaws in country. I really hope to make Kris proud with this version.”

Of course, “Help Me Make It Through The Night” was a solo write by Kris, and included on his 1970 album Kristofferson. It has been covered by countless other artists since then like Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Tyler Childers and many, many more.

“Help Me” peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 1971, and of course, remains one of the all-time great country songs to this day.

You can listen to a preview of Lainey’s cover here, but if you have an Amazon account, you can go download the whole thing there:
