Sports fans are crazy.
I know I definitely fall into the category of crazed sports fanatic, considering I sit down on Sundays and watch 7 hours of commercial free football. And guess what? There’s no remorse about it either, because I truly consider that time as therapy.
That’s probably not good, right?
But enough about me! Let’s instead focus on this New York Knicks fan who left quite the letter for his wife of 11 years to find. The post about it is now going viral, which features a picture of the letter and a text message exchange where the husband told the wife that he “had to be true to his self.”
The first part of the letter reads:
“Let me start this off by saying that I love you dearly. You mean the world to me. However, I owe it to myself, as well as you, to be completely honest with you. I have to come forward with my truth. I hate to do it this way, but it’s now or never because what I’m about to say has to be said.”
Oh boy… a letter that starts like that isn’t promising. That’s why so many social media users were stopped right in their tracks by this story. However, things slowly got less and less serious as the rest of the letter unraveled.
The husband was leaving his wife, but only temporarily:
“October 22nd marks opening night for the New York Knicks season. I will be watching the game tonight. That means from 7 PM (when pregame starts) to whatever time the game ends, I will not be a husband or a father. Y’all are on your own for a couple of hours.
No, I will not watch our shows with you. No, I will not get you something sweet. I will not take the dog out. I will not get the kid in bed either. I will sit on my couch, drink in hand, and I will watch the game. That’s it. This doesn’t mean I love you guys any less. It just means tonight is not about y’all.”
Ladies … choose yourself. I woke up to this nonsense after almost 11 years of marriage pic.twitter.com/oFyr2WUmfg

See? That’s not so bad. “Fred” is just relieving himself of his husband and father duties for a couple of hours so he can enjoy the Knicks game. It might be a little absurd, but that’s probably the best thing that the letter could have said after that opening paragraph.
The post has garnered almost 10 million views, and just short of 300,000 likes. It seems as though this Knicks fan might be starting a trend of “husband temporary resignation letters,” considering everyone that left a reply thought the stunt was hilarious:
He’s a keeper 😭

He chose his happiness over responsibilities and I can’t say I’m mad at that.

You could have given me a million guesses on how that letter would end, and I still wouldn’t have seen this coming 😂😂😂.

The wildest part about this is that he thinks the Knicks will make the playoffs
