Those at Zanies in Nashville that stopped in for some comedy and ended up getting a free (sort of) Red Clay Strays show.
That’s the beauty of living in the Music City. You just never know when a country artist or band is going to pop in, and Brandon Coleman and the Red Clay Strays proved that to be true on a random Monday night at Zanies Comedy Club.
Though it’s unclear how Coleman and his bandmates ended up on stage, the Red Clay Strays shared a video of what appears to be an impromptu performance of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash. Brandon wasn’t alone up on stage, as he was joined by Steve Byrne, Nate Bargatze, Joe DeRosa, and the legendary, always-shirtless Bert Kreischer.
Bargatze was included in the post, though I don’t see him up on stage. Those with sharper eyes might spot him, or the Red Clay Strays may have just credited the Nashville native (and one of my favorite comedians) if he was there that night. I would have loved to see and hear Nate sing “Ring of Fire” with the rest of the group.
But anyways, Coleman usually handles the lead vocals, and he did so for part of the ensemble cover song. At one point though, the Machine himself butted in and said “I’ve got this one,” suggesting he was going to take over the next portion of the song. Kreischer was joking, yet he still came in really strong as the song continued.
I know this is a big ask… but could we get a “Red Clay Strays (featuring Bert Kreischer)” song sometimes soon? Hell, Zanies could even take this audio recording and release it as a live track.
To be honest, I’m just jealous that I wasn’t there to experience this wild, jam-packed night at Zanies. It looks like everyone there had one heck of a night, and certainly got their money’s worth if they got to see sets from Byrne, Bargatze, DeRosa, Kreischer AND a Johnny Cash cover in the stylings of the Red Clay Strays.
