Just in time for Father’s Day.
Today, Luke Combs announced he has a new album called Fathers & Sons dropping next Friday, June 14th, which is perfect timing with Father’s Day happening on Sunday, June 16th.
The album will feature 12 songs that center around the theme of being a dad, what it’s like raising boys, and even some from the perspective of a son and how they view their dads as young boys. Of course, Luke is a dad to two little ones including Tex, who will be two this month, and Beau, who was born last August.
On the album cover Luke shared on Instagram, you see a sweet photo of Luke and his dad fishing with Tex and Beau, which is absolutely the perfect cover for this very personal project that I’m sure his entire family, along with millions of fans, will cherish forever:
“Excited to announce my new album Fathers & Sons will be out NEXT Friday, June 14. The full track list is on the second slide, but ‘The Man He Sees in Me’ is out now!
I can’t wait for y’all to hear the full album next week and hope y’all love this project as much as I do.”
You can view the tracklist on the second slide:
Additionally, Luke also put out a new song today called “The Man He Sees in Me,” which is an absolutely beautiful tune about his love for his sons and how he hopes to be the man they deserve as a father.
The song was written by Luke along Josh Phillips, and describes Luke’s oldest son Tex (and I’m sure it was also inspired by his infant son Beau), and how he likes to play Spiderman in his Walmart boots and go fishing in a camo hat.
Luke sings about how Tex thinks his dad hung the moon, and he hopes he never gets old enough to realize that Luke has never really “scared a monster out of the closet in his room” and isn’t exactly a perfect person:
“He’s Spiderman and Walmart boots
And a camouflage hat
With a baby blue Zebco that gets hung up every cast
He thinks he’s learning fishing
From the man that taught Bill Dance
And I think as I untangle it and put it in his hands
I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon
And I’ve never scared a monster
Out of the closet in his room
One day between him leaving home and driving on my knee
Maybe I’ll finally be the man he sees in me”
Yeah, you might wanna grab a few tissues before you listen to this one… it’s a special song, and being a parent has certainly given him new inspiration and much more depth as a songwriter, and I’m so here for it.
