The Rona strikes again…
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which was pushed to May from its annual date in March, has officially been canceled all together this year.
The 2020 show, which was set to feature performances from Chris Stapleton, Willie Nelson, Cody Johnson, and more, was cut short due to the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
President and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Chris Boleman, released the following statement:
“While we were optimistic that moving our Rodeo to May would provide a better opportunity to host our annual community event that Rodeo fans have come to love and expect, unfortunately, it has become evident that the current health situation has not improved to the degree necessary to host our event.
While this is an extremely heartbreaking decision for our Rodeo volunteers and the larger Rodeo community, we believe this decision is in the best interest of the health and well-being of our community.”
As of right now, the plan is to return in 2022.
“The Rodeo and our volunteers are committed to continuing to provide fans with a community event that all can be proud of. We look forward to welcoming Rodeo fans back to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2022 for our 90th anniversary celebration.”
Texas is one of the few states in the country that has been holding limited capacity concerts this year, however when we’re talking about filling up a stadium, it’s an entirely different animal.
