They say sometimes its best to prioritize yourself, and if the reports are true, Jay-Z certainly did that when he chose himself to headline the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show.
It’s the announcement that NFL and music fans wait for every single year: Who gets the honor of entertaining the world during halftime of the Big Game? Last year it was Bad Bunny. The year before, Kendrick Lamar. And the rumor mill was suggesting that Super Bowl LXI would bring on Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, or Harry Styles.
With country music as popular as ever, and stars like Morgan Wallen, Zach Bryan, Ella Langley and Luke Combs reaching historic heights, you’d think that now would be the time to welcome country music back to the Super Bowl halftime show. Granted, country fans are holding out hope for 2030 when Nashville hosts the Super Bowl, and that would certainly make sense, but I’m honestly not gonna hold my breath.
Here’s the deal. The NFL has entrusted rapper and producer, Jay-Z, to help them make the halftime show decisions. Back in 2019, he signed a $5 million-per-year deal to help oversee the musical entertainment aspect of future Super Bowls. Jay-Z and the NFL renewed their deal in 2024, and according to Puck News, the “Empire State of Mind” singer has found the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.
After a long, tedious search… he’s reportedly chosen himself.
That’s right. Jay-Z was looking for an artist to take the stage at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles next February, and at one point in his outward search, he apparently realized he needed to look inward. The NFL has not officially announced Jay-Z as the halftime performer for Super Bowl LXI, but a lot of outlets are running with the report from Puck News:
Jay-Z was probably like, “I was right here the whole time… you know who would be perfect for this? ME!”
Like I mentioned earlier, it’s not officially official… but all signs are pointing towards Jay-Z – the man trusted to help the NFL pick the best musical talent for the halftime show each and every year – choosing Jay-Z. If it ends up being true, you’ve got to respect the boldness of his decision.
As you might imagine, the internet has been having a field day with the report. The memes are flowing as Jay-Z is reportedly set to headline Super Bowl LXI after an intense search for the best and brightest talent of the current music landscape:

Oh, and by the way, here’s your friendly reminder that the Super Bowl this year will fall on February 14th… which is also known as Valentine’s Day. Plan accordingly.
