Finally some good news for Nashville-based artists trying to make a living playing music in Music City.
For decades, the city of Nashville has been built upon the backs of the musically creative. Now, with free parking dwindling, and recent property tax hikes, Music City is making it harder and harder for aspiring artists – and anyone who could be viewed as the “little guy” – to afford to live and operate in Nashville.
If you’ve visited Tennessee’s capital lately, you know it’s nearly impossible to find a free parking spot in Nashville. Gone are the good ol’ day where musicians and artists could park near Broadway and walk down to make a buck. Now, those playing in Honky Tonks to entertain the millions of tourists that visit Music City every year have to try and come home with more money than they have to fork over for parking.
It’s become a real problem for Nashville as a whole.
There weren’t many signs of it getting better until Parking Management Company (PMC) and JamJuice came together and announced a new initiative to make parking more affordable for musicians in Nashville. All eligible artists have to do now is find PMC-owned parking, and go through the verification process with JamJuice to get $5 per day parking.
Over 30 different locations across Nashville will offer up this $5 parking benefit, and Ron Coleman – the COO at PMC – told Music Row that he felt as though its important to help the musicians and artists that help make Music City what it is:
“Nashville’s music community plays such an important role in the identity and economy of our city, and we wanted to find a practical way to support the people behind that music. This program allows us to put our expertise and resources to work in a way that helps ease a real, everyday expense for working musicians.”
There’s no doubt that this initiative will be potentially life-changing for artists heading down to Broadway and other places in and around Nashville. Working for tips, like many artists do, is challenging… especially when you know you’ve got to make $60+ just to offset your parking costs.
The CEO of JamJuice – Matthew Romero – said this partnership is just an extension of what they’ve always set out to do: Help musicians:
“Supporting musicians has always been at the heart of what we do at JamJuice, and we’re proud to continue that work alongside partners who share that commitment. This partnership with PMC is another way we can use our platform and relationships to create meaningful support for Nashville’s artists and strengthen the community they’ve built.”
Below is a list of the discounted rate locations that PMC and JamJuice have partnered to provide. Here’s to hoping other corporate parking companies that have taken over Nashville follow suit.
