The Final Season Of Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’ Gets A BIG Update

All has been quiet on the Mayor of Kingstown front… until now.

The last update of any substance that we got about the hit Taylor Sheridan series (one of his most underrated, might I add) was a tad bittersweet. It was in January that fans found out that the Jeremy Renner-led show would be returning for a fifth season. That was obviously good news, but the bad news that came with it? Season 5 would serve as the hit show’s final season.

If you are unfamiliar with the story of Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown, Renner plays Mike McLusky, and the series follows the McLusky family in Kingstown, Michigan – a city where prison is the only real industry. Acting as the mediators between the street gangs, prisoners, guards, cops and politicians, the McLusky family battles to keep the peace in Kingstown, and has done so for decades.

It’s been a tremendous television show ever since it premiered its first season back in 2021. And as it’s gone on, it’s only gotten better. The cast additions for Season 4 really lifted Mayor of Kingstown to a whole other level. Edie Falco (The Sopranos), Lennie James (Fear The Walking Dead) and Laura Benanti (Younger) were all added to the show as series regulars for this latest season, and they did not disappoint.

Honestly, it felt like Season 4 (and putting past seasons of the show on Netflix) was really starting to give the show some momentum. That’s why it comes as a bit of a shock that Season 5 was announced as Mayor of Kingstown‘s final season.

Especially since the show’s creators had previously stated that they had a “seven season plan” for Mike McLusky’s story. But they’ll be wrapping up things up a couple seasons short of that, and in a few less episodes as well. The order for Season 5 is only eight episodes, whereas Seasons 1-4 came in at 10 episodes a piece.

After the fifth season was ordered, the series started filming in the spring and concluded shooting sometime in the the summer. Once a series gets to the end of filming, there’s usually an announcement about when fans can expect to see the show return to their television screens. That wasn’t the case for Mayor of Kingstown, for whatever reason.

The only reason we have an update on when it might return is thanks to an actor named Yani Gellman (Pretty Little Liars, The Young and the Restless). It was just a couple of days ago that Gellman took to social media to share that he had joined the cast of Mayor of Kingstown for the show’s final season, and shared when the series is supposed to return… whether he was supposed to or not:

“So excited to be joining this incredible show! New season airs early 2027, but past seasons are streaming on Netflix now.”

There you have it.

Though it’s not official word from Paramount+, it certainly seems like Mayor of Kingstown will premiere its fifth and final season in early 2027. That’s exciting news, both because a) that’s not too far away and b) it’s a long-awaited update.

So if you are behind on the show, better get caught up on Season 4 in the next couple of months. Here’s the Season 4 trailer, in case you wanted to check it out before you dive into your binge:
