“We Can’t Rewrite The Past” – Drew Parker Reflects On Legacy & Faith In New Song “Family Tree”

Drew Parker

Drew Parker decided to take his country music career in a new direction, and his latest release – “Family Tree” – proves that he made the right decision.

You might not know the name Drew Parker all that well, but you are definitely familiar with his work. The Grammy-nominated songwriter has penned songs like “Doin’ This,” “1,2 Many” and “Forever After All” for Luke Combs, and “Homemade” by Jake Owen. And he’s been in Nashville for over 10 years now chasing his country music dream.

But late last year, Parker shared the story of how God moved him to shift from country to Christian music, and he hasn’t looked back.

Now, the multi-platinum songwriter is living a life that glorifies God. He’s still making music (we’ll get to that in a bit), but if you follow him online, you’ll often see Parker simply talking about The Bible, and how the Lord is working. Just a couple of days ago, he shared this powerful message about Matthew 14:22-31.

As you can see, Drew Parker is doing all he can to point people towards God.

And that’s both through his social media presence and the music he’s been focused on ever since he received undeniable guidance from the Lord. Today, Parker released a song called “Family Tree,” which explores how faith can impact what’s handed down from generation to generation.

The country-artist-turned-Christian-singer explained his thought process and motivation behind the song as this:

“Family Tree’ is about the cross and how Jesus can change what gets passed down. We can’t rewrite the generations before us, but through faith in Him, we can be forgiven, made new, and begin living a different story.

As a dad, that means more than my own life changing. It means showing my kids what it looks like to follow Jesus and praying they’ll come to know Him for themselves. That’s the kind of legacy I want to leave.”

The song is the second official step towards his Christian music career, with the already released “Blame Jesus” being his first, official entrant into the faith-based genre. Both tracks showcase Parker’s strong songwriting and storytelling, and still have a country sound, but they both explore the healing and purpose that only God can provide.

The chorus of “FAMILY TREE” is the kind of hook that’ll get stuck in your head:

“Yeah, I got blood in my bloodline
From the one who died and poured out amazing grace
So I sing a hallelujah from the holler praise
Yeah, it’s got some roots in some holy ground
Up on a hill looking down it ain’t just an old rugged cross to me
It’s a son of man, became a man, to save a man family tree.”

Give it a spin.

“Family Tree”

It’s a great song, and an inspiring story from Drew Parker.

He set aside his country music career to start making music that glorifies God, and people are connecting to the messaging. “Family Tree” is proof that you worship music can get your toe-tapping, and Drew Parker hopes that his work – which he feels he was called to do – continues to lead people to Christ.
