Darius Rucker Pulls Out Iconic Hootie Lyric To Mourn The Winless Miami Dolphins

Darius Rucker

Darius Rucker’s favorite NFL team – the Miami Dolphins – is having a rough season thus far. The country music star is dealing with the pain of his fandom by rolling out Hootie & The Blowfish memes.

The Dolphins weren’t expected to be a powerhouse team this year, by any means. This is most certainly a rebuilding year for the South Beach football team, and that became even more evident when their star running back, Devon Achane, went down with a season ending injury.

Through five weeks, they are a miserable 0-5. Though they’ve shown flashes at times, they haven’t been able to get in the win column even once this year… and it looks like its going to be a long season for the team in aqua and orange.

One of the franchises most notable fans is Darius Rucker. The country star has long supported the ‘Fins, and it appears his hopes and expectations for his team this year were far too high. Every NFL fan wants their team to win, and has dreams of reaching the Super Bowl. The thing that usually puts a damper on those dreams? Actually playing the games.

The former Hootie and the Blowfish frontman is not pleased with how the Dolphins have looked through the first five weeks, to say the least. How do we know that? Well, he just used one of Hootie & The Blowfish’s most famous songs as a meme template. With his Dolphins shirt on, and a frown on his face, Rucker reacted to the latest Dolphins loss by utilizing these lyrics:

“You walked in, I didn’t know just what I should doSo I sat back down and had a beer and felt sorry for myself.”

Poor Darius.

Great meme work by him and his team though. That’s how songs get big now (and are often discovered): by being overlaid on a trendy video. Rucker is getting in on the joke – or maybe even starting a new trend – by using “Let Her Cry” to encapsulate his hopelessness towards the Miami Dolphins.

The song was released in 1994 as a single from the band’s Cracked Rear View album, and Rucker has actually called it his first country song. It quickly became one of Hootie’s most recognizable songs, and was a top-10 hit in the United States (and Australia, Canada and Iceland) upon its release. It even won a Grammy for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.”

And now, it’s given new life thanks to a potential new meme format. Think of all the sports fans out there that are upset with their teams. They can all do exactly what the song instructs: sit down, have a beer, and feel sorry for themselves. Heck… they are probably already doing it anyways. They just need to turn the camera on and capture it like Darius did.

Something tells me Rucker might be able to roll this video out every single week of this Dolphins season. The schedule doesn’t get much easier for Miami, so hopefully the Hootie frontman is prepared to sit down, have beers, and feel sorry for himself for weeks to come.

“Let Her Cry” by Hootie & The Blowfish

Of course, the 1995 Hootie hit “Only Wanna Be With You” also finds Darius lamenting the Dolphins with the line: “I’m such a baby ’cause the Dolphins make me cry.”
