The Red Clay Strays got to try out the Yellowstone life for a bit thanks to Taylor Sheridan.
The band from Mobile, Alabama consisting of Drew Nix (electric guitar, vocals, harmonica), Zach Rishel (electric guitar), Andrew Bishop (bass), John Hall (drums), Sevans Henderson (keys), and frontman Brandon Coleman recently got an invite that they probably couldn’t believe: Taylor Sheridan wanted them to come out and visit his 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas.
The historic ranch – which spans hundreds of thousands of acres – had a price tag of around $330 million, and Sheridan has been very open about what had to happen and what had to go right for him to make the purchase. In fact, he’s admitted that he was contemplating retirement before he decided he wanted to purchase the Texas property.
That’s why he signed on with Paramount years ago to make even more TV shows and movies , and that deal just so happened to be enough to cover the price of the 6666 Ranch.
So now, that’s one of the many places where Sheridan resides, and obviously, it’s a site that plenty of Yellowstone fans would love to see with their own eyes. Evidently, the Red Clay Strays are big fans of Sheridan (they excitedly shared that they got to see iconic filming locations). And why wouldn’t they be? Their collection of work has been featured heavily in Landman.
Sheridan has included all of these tracks in the soundtrack of the oil drama:
-“Ramblin'”
-“Wondering Why”
-“Sunshine (Western AF Version)”
-“She’s No Good”
-“Moment of Truth”
-“Wasting Time”
There’s no doubt that the Red Clay Strays are grateful for the Sheridan boost (often referred to as the “Yellowstone Effect”). And I’m sure they didn’t expect anything in return… but they sure looked thrilled to be at the 6666 Ranch with Sheridan himself recently:
What a cool pit stop for the Red Clay Strays while they are out on their Grateful Tour.
And for those hoping that Coleman and the band were possibly filming a cameo in some sort of 6666 spinoff, you can pump the brakes on that one. Sheridan recently confirmed that rumored 6666 spinoff will never happen while he was on Dale Brisby’s Rodeo Time podcast.
When the prolific writer, director and creator was asked to provide an update on what was supposed to be a Jimmy White-focused spinoff, he confidently said that 6666 will never happen:
“There’s never going to be one. I would never fictionalize that ranch… People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that. Because at some point, what you have to do to sustain it — I’ve actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the Four Sixes pulled out and strung together, and it makes its own perfect little movie.
Where you watch him go there as this misfit, and leave as a man and a respected cowboy, and for the people who were in the cowboy world, that’s Heath Ellerby that walks in there. That’s not an actor, that’s the general manager of the Wagon Ranch, and so, for the people who know, that rings really true to them. ‘That’s Heath! That is the guy!’”
It appears that the main reason why Sheridan chose not to move forward with 6666 was simply didn’t want to tarnish the real-life, still-active ranch.
And by the looks of it… he’s also too busy using the legendary Texas ranch to host some of the biggest names in country music.
