Want to own a piece of country music history? Then you should consider buying a red 1958 Chevrolet Corvette that used to belong to the “King of Country” himself: George Strait.
If you consider yourself a super-fan of the country music icon that’s penned songs like “Amarillo By Morning” and “Check Yes or No,” you’ve got the opportunity to secure the biggest conversation starter. In November, GAA Classic Cars in Greensboro, North Carolina is set to auction off a Signet Red Corvette that was once owned by Strait, as their auction page explains:
“The GAA listing identifies the Corvette as formerly owned by George Strait, and the car still carries a display placard noting its time with the “King of Country.”
Another fun fact: Chevrolet only ever built around 9,100 of these 1958 models, so it’s a rare automobile even without George Strait’s name attached. And it’s a real beauty, as you can see in the pictures that GAA Classic Cars provided:

That corvette even sat in the National Corvette Museum at one point (late 2012 to early 2013) and people paid to see the “George Strait Corvette.”
For all you gear-heads out there, the car boasts most of its original features, and offers a wide variety of highlights. GAA Classic Cars listed all of them out, with many of the things being purely automotive related… except for the last one on the list:
- Carter Carburetor
- Points Ignition
- 283 4-Barrel / Casting 3756519
- OE Air Cleaner
- Chevrolet Script Valve Covers
- 4-Speed with OE Shifter
- 12-Volt Generator
- Manual Brakes
- Manual Steering
- OE Style Radiator
- Wonderbar Radio
- 5k Redline Tachometer
- Electric Wipers
- Spinner Wheel Covers
- Wide Whitewall Tires
- OE Dual Exhaust
- Seatbelts
- Manual Top
- Heater
- Trunk Mat
- OE Spare Tire
- Formerly Owned by George Strait
Car collectors will pay attention to the rest of the list… country music fans probably only care about that last highlight.
How does the potential buyer know that it was actually once owned by George Strait? Well, besides the placard that is physically located on the car, there is proper documentation that comes with the vehicle. Having a former celebrity owner always makes a car’s value go up, and GAA Classic Cars shared these two documents to prove that Strait used to zip around in this very Corvette.
One document is an insurance card that showed George and Norma Strait were covered to drive this car during a policy term stretching from 1987 to 1988. The other is the tax collector’s receipt for the vehicle that once was a prized possession of the country singer:

Would be kind of weird to frame a tax collector’s receipt… but if I was in the running to buy this car, I’d consider it.
GAA Classic Cars is set to hold their auction in November in Greensboro, and there will be in-person, phone and online bidding options. They are only interested in serious offers, and if you are in the market for a Signet Red, four-speed 1958 Corvette that used to be owned by George Strait, you can check out the official listing for more information.
For the lucky soul who eventually ends up with it… I know the perfect song to play once you make the purchase official:
“I Got A Car”
