Sure, Riley…
Riley Green is gearing up to release his new album That’s Just Me next Friday, September 18th, and ahead of the big release, Riley sat down for an interview with sports personality Pat McAfee for Spotify.
And of course, McAfee had to at least try to get something out of Riley in terms of the Megan Moroney drama, as fans are convinced her song “Who Hurt You?” is about whatever went wrong with fellow country star Riley Green. The two were spotted hanging out in Nashville and in his hometown of Jacksonville, Alabama, and the song pretty much revealed how everything went down from her perspective. Megan sings about how “the devil went down to Georgia, then he crossed the Bama line,” which is very telling right from the start.
Riley seemingly returned the favor with a self-deprecating song called “POS Like Me,” which he shared on his own Instagram account the evening she released her album, though he’s since said publicly that it was simply a coincidence, and nothing about the song, or the timing of when he put it out, had anything to do with Megan.

They talked about the name of the album, and McAfee joked that it could’ve been called “POS” too, hinting at the song, and Riley tried his best to avoid getting too much into what it was really about and gave a pretty surface-level response about how it came to be:
“That’s a fun song. It’s a very self-deprecating song. Me and Randy Montana, a guy I write with quite a bit, I love when we’re writing. We always saw, I like that guy. That’s a phrase he always uses wen we’re describing something, telling a story. He’ll go, ‘Man, I like the guy that would say that or do that.’
So we’re always trying to write that. This was a song that, it was thinking that maybe some people would look down on, but a guy that grew up whereI grew up was proud of it. So I love that it had that spin on it. Really fun song. It got a lot of traction, too, so I’m excited about people hearing it.”
But McAfee didn’t let him get away with it that easy, responding that he had “good timing” in terms of putting up an acoustic video of him playing it the same day Megan dropped Cloud 9, the album “Who Hurt You?” is on, earlier this year.
He sarcastically called it an obvious “coincidence,” and Riley held his ground, saying he’s not “smart enough to pull something like that off”:
“Yeah, I mean I don’t think I’m smart enough to pull something like that off.”
I get that he doesn’t want to stir anything up, I guess, but we all know why he posted it that day…
Later in the interview, McAfee brought it up again, saying the album as a whole has a lot of variety, and fans will like get answers to some things, or at least assume they’re getting answers to certain things.
Riley agreed, saying it’s “fair” to think that, so it sounds like he’s anticipating the drama from fans:
“There will definitely be some assumptions made, I think. Yeah, that’s fair.”
McAfee responded:
“Yeah, just the day and how you dropped POS, I think that immediately we all kind of just assume things so I like that song.”
Riley wasn’t giving anything, saying:
“Like a Thursday? Yeah.”
I don’t think he’ll ever admit it, but the context clues say it all in my humble opinion… and it sounds like some will be revealed on That’s Just Me, which is coming soon:
