Riley Green is gearing up for a busy fall, as he’s gearing up to release his new album That’s Just Me, in addition to starting a new role as coach on The Voice at the end of this month. And this morning, he appeared on the Today Show, where the hosts asked him about his new gig on The Voice and his forthcoming album.
Of course, the hosts also had to ask him about his relationship status, because the ladies are always wanting to know what’s going on in his love life, and Riley played it pretty coy at first when they asked if he wanted a girl from Nashville or his home state of Alabama:
“I don’t know what Im looking for. I don’t care where they live at.”
When pressed, he gave a pretty simple answer, saying whoever he ends up with just has to be liked by his mom and his dog, Carl:
“Probably just somebody I think my mom will like. If Carl and my mom likes her, Carl’s my dog… we should just line them up and have Carl see who he goes to.”
Riley has talked before about how he’s just not in a place he feels like he can be in a committed, long-term relationship because of his insane work schedule, and honestly, that’s probably smart… I’m sure he dates around and has girls he hangs out with, but it sounds like it’s gonna be a while before he’s ready to settle down.
In terms of his career as a whole and how he’s risen to being one of mainstream country music’s biggest stars, Riley says he stays grounded by going back home to his farm as often as he can, because the people back home keep him humble.
Though he does admit, being a country star sure beats driving nails into houses in the heat like he was doing in construction before he made it big:
“It’s happened so quickly in a lot of ways that it’s tough to make yourself sit back and live where your boots are. It’s been so helpful to have that farm in Alabama because everybody still treats me the same way.
And when I get back there, I can kind of get back to reality. I always say, it’s not real life when people are chanting your name when you’re walking on stage. It does beat driving nails, I did that for a long time, it’s hot in Alabama a right now.”
