It’s hard to argue that there’s a bigger artist, not just in the genre but music as a whole, than Ella Langley in 2026. As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female country artist on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay charts simultaneously and now stands alone as the second-longest-running hit in U.S. HISTORY.
In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album. Of course, Taylor Swift was the first, going #1 with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” back in 2021.
She’d make even more history back on May 18th when “Choosin’ Texas” spent its 10th week at #1 on the Hot 100 and “Be Her” held strong at #2 for a second straight week. In turn, she became the first country artist in history to hold the Top 2 songs in the United States simultaneously for more than one week. This broke her out a tie with Morgan Wallen, who became the first country artist to do so upon the release of I’m The Problem last May, when he owned the top three songs with “What I Want,” “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem.”
The last month has been particularly historic for Langley and the smash hit. With “Choosin’ Texas” spending its 15th and 16th weeks at #1, it became the longest-running #1 hit by a female artist this CENTURY. In case that wasn’t enough, she helped the genre make history when only country songs made up the Top 5 on the Hot 100 last week, including the likes of Morgan Wallen’s brand-new single, “Been By Now,” Taylor Swift’s return to country music, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” from Toy Story 5, Langley and Wallen’s collaboration, “I Can’t Love You Anymore” and Stella Lefty’s controversial viral hit, “Boston.”
Fresh off an emotional weekend that included a two-night stop at her alma mater in Auburn and a touching tribute to the late, great Dolly Parton, this week, Choosin’ Texas” remained at #1 for its 20th frame, garnering 24.2 million official streams, 56.8 million airplays on radio and 7,000 units sold.
As for what records she broke this week, “Choosin’ Texas” is now the longest-running non-holiday #1 hit in the history of the Hot 100. With the 20th week atop the chart, the megahit now stands alone as the second-longest running hit in the chart’s history, passing Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” (19 weeks). In turn, it has now officially become the biggest country hit of all time, as far as Billboard chart data is concerned.
Additionally, Langley and “Choosin’ Texas” are now just the second song and artist in U.S. HISTORY to notch 20 weeks on the chart. Of course, she is still behind Mariah Carey’s holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which holds the all-time record at 22 weeks.
Per usual, Langley continues to dominate other Billboard charts as well. This week, the track also topped Songs of the Summer (13th week), Streaming Songs (20th week) and Hot Country Songs (38th week), which extends its record for the third-longest in its history. Additionally, it reached new highs on non-country radio formats, slotting in at #4 on Adult Pop Airplay and #7 on Pop Airplay.
As of this morning, “Choosin’ Texas” is projected to score its 21st frame at #1 next week by 85 points. With this, Langley will be just one week off from tying Carey’s record. In case that wasn’t enough, some chart forecasters on X (formerly Twitter), such as Talk of the Charts, project the track may hit as many as 26 weeks atop the Hot 100. Simply put, there is a real likelihood that “Choosin’ Texas” becomes the biggest hit in American history by the time its run is over.
