Another beautiful tribute for the queen, Mrs. Dolly Parton.
Last night, Carrie Underwood played a show at the Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, and like so many other have been doing, she paid tribute to Dolly and the life and legacy she left behind.
Carrie and Dolly have worked together a couple of times over the years, including on the 2009 for Carrie’s An All-Star Holiday Special where they performed a duet of Dolly’s iconic song “I Will Always Love You,” in addition to performing together at the 2019 CMA Awards.
On the day of her passing, Carrie shared a beautiful post about Dolly, calling her the “epitome of faith, grace, talent, beauty and humor.” She added that she knows “exactly where she is” because of her “humble heart for Jesus”:
“She’s not gone. I know exactly where she is. She was the epitome of faith, grace, talent, beauty and humor. She had a humble heart for Jesus and made everyone around her feel special. She was probably the one person on planet Earth that everyone loved and could agree on.
She was a one of one and no one will ever come close. It’s alright to be sad that this world lost a legend, but heaven gained an angel. Well done, good and faithful Dolly. Welcome home.”
And during the concert last night, Carrie took time to once again acknowledge her love for Dolly and Dolly’s impact on the world, saying, of course, she was a huge influence, and also “one of the nicest people” she’s ever met:
“[I want to] acknowledge and pour my love out for not just a huge influence to so many of us, but just one of the nicest people I think I’ve ever met on this planet. It is such a shock, I feel like to the whole world, the ripples… it’s like time just stood still.
But she’s just one that transcends all space and all time. And I feel like she was just out there with the brightest smile on her face up until the very last minute. And that’s someting that I feel like we can all learn from. She is gone, but she is not forgotten. I know where she is. I know how much she loved Jesus.
But right now we’re gonna do a song that is very important to me andI feel like it fits the moment. We all have somebody in our lives that is no longer with us, but we know that we’ll see them again.”
It’s impossible to overstate just how much Dolly means to the world, but I think Carrie did a beautiful job and shared some very poignant words:
