Dutton Ranch stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser hear Yellowstone fans’ questions about an important character death and a potential crossover, and they did their best to clear everything up in a recent interview.
We’ve now reached the conclusion of both the first seasons of Marshals and Dutton Ranch. As anticipated, the spinoffs provided monster ratings, and proved that Yellowstone fans are still chomping at the bit to see the stories of many beloved characters continue. And that they will… both shows have already been renewed for second seasons.
Though fans loved seeing Kayce Dutton in Marshals and Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in Dutton Ranch, they did have some questions, and a few gripes. One of those was wishing there was some overlap in the series, and specifically so that viewers could see how Beth and Rip handled the loss of Kayce’s wife, Monica.
Reilly spoke to TV Insider and said not exploring that was a “missed opportunity” and could have provided an easy reason to have the two shows come together. The actress behind Beth Dutton thinks some connection could be coming:
“I think that happened before our show started in a story world. I imagine Beth and Rip had gone to Monica’s (funeral), that there has been some connection and our story started after that. But I would absolutely imagine that there’ll be some checking in on her brother and we just didn’t see it this year.”
Sounds like a promising update.
Reilly hypothesized that, because both Marshals and Dutton Ranch were trying to get their respective shows off the ground, having them cross over in Season 1 would have been complicated. But now that both spinoffs are established, Reilly thinks that Season 2 could and should bring the two storylines together:
“We’re all both trying to start up these big shows. And I think we can see where there are gaps and we see where things needed to be fixed. And that’s what you get the opportunity to do in a Season 2. You get to go back and go, ‘Okay, we can do this one differently. We can make this better. We can take care of that.’
And I think we already have our list of things in all our individual minds: Christina Voros, Taylor Sheridan, our producers, our new showrunner (Benjamin Cavell). So I’m looking forward to getting into that, and so we can make the best show we can.”
A Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover would be a dream come true for Yellowstone fans out there.
It’d also be something that Reilly’s co-star, Cole Hauser, would love to see. He thinks that the shows coming together could finally provide a moment where Rip Wheeler and Kayce Dutton get along:
“It’d be fun to see actually Kayce and Rip get along. Have a scene where they’re actually happy together. I would absolutely love to see that and see it written and actually have some fun with him in some capacity.”
Sounds like most everyone involved in Dutton Ranch and Marshals are on board, so hopefully it comes to fruition for all of the Yellowstone fans out there.
