Honeymooning in Las Vegas for the ACM Awards.
Lainey Wilson wasn’t kidding when she sings that she can’t sit still. She went straight from the wedding aisle to the ACM Awards, kicking things off this evening in Las Vegas with her latest single, “Can’t Sit Still.” Wilson and Duck Hodges officially tied the knot last week in a stunning Tennessee wedding, on Mother’s Day.
The pair met through a mutual friend, and in her new Netflix documentary, Lainey revealed that the night they met, she was “broke,” and Duck might’ve thought she was doing a little better than she was. Just a few weeks later, she had to have her sister send her some money so she could continue to stay afloat in Nashville and make her dreams a reality:
“That was the night we met. I was broke. I was so broke when we met. And he thought I was doing a little bit better than I was. But a few weeks after we met, my sister had to Venmo me a couple hundred bucks.”
That was in 2021, and it’s really incredible how much has changed since the years following. Lainey often talks about how supportive Duck is of her career, and they seem like a great match that has already gone through a lot of change together, with Lainey’s stardom exploding.
Vogue shared photos and details of Lainey and Duck’s special day, which took place at The Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee, on May 10th, and they shared all of the details with Vogue. Lainey says they selected the venue because of the “simplicity” of the property:
“Duck and I were driving backroads in Tennessee and saw a billboard for The Ruskin Cave. Duck said, ‘You wanna get married there?’ I said, ‘Done deal.’ We dropped by, saw the venue, and fell in love with the natural beauty of the cave and the simplicity of the property.”
They worked with Hugh Howser and Kate Steele with H Three Events to plan everything, and of course, Lainey had to bring in some of that Cajun flair, so they had a 12-piece jazz band and Cajun meal prepared by the chefs at her Nashville bar, Bell Bottoms Up”:
“We wanted it to be special and beautiful, but really welcoming and comfortable for our guests. We tried not to take ourselves too seriously. Being from Louisiana, I wanted to bring in a little bit of Cajun flair, so naturally we hired a 12-piece jazz band called Rebirth and had a Cajun meal from the chefs at my bar, Bell Bottoms Up.”
The fact that these two went straight from wedding-planning mode back into work mode, with no time for a honeymoon, is a testament to how dialed in they are on Lainey Wilson’s booming career, making sacrifices so she can keep chasing her dream.
But the two can relive their dreamy wedding night all over again, as their wedding festivities were the hot topic of their ACM red carpet interviews. During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Lainey Wilson and Duck shared that the night was everything they could have dreamed of:
“It was exactly what we wanted it to be. To tell you the truth, we had our closest friends and family there, and it was just a night that we’ll never forget. We think that we had the coolest wedding ever.”
I think the public would agree too. I truly got full-body chills seeing their reception set up in a cave. How many other people can say they got married in a cave?
If you tuned into any of their wedding content, then you’d see that some of their closest friends included a star-studded guest list, including appearances from Ella Langley, Jelly Roll, Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, and more. While it looks like Wilson and Hodges threw quite the party that night, it was surprising to hear Lainey Wilson reveal that none of her musically inclined guests hopped on the microphone for an impromptu performance.
Wilson revealed to the ET correspondent:
“Nobody got on the mic! We were waiting! I was like, ‘Jelly Roll, they done learned your song, you better get up there boy!'”
I mean, it’s very kind of their guests to want the focus to be on them, but it sounds like Wilson and Hodges were game to be serenaded by someone that night. Given that it feels like surprise wedding performances are quite a trend, it’s shocking to hear that no one hopped on stage that night. But hey, I guess that means everyone was having too much fun to even think about performing.
And while many thought the two went straight from wedding festivities to the ACM Awards, Lainey Wilson did reveal the two got away in Sedona for a few days before heading to Las Vegas. I am sure a full-blown honeymoon is in store for these two once things cool down a little bit.
A much-deserved break for Wilson is in store then.
