Ben Chapman’s new album can’t get here soon enough.
Titled Feet On Fire, the LaFayette, GA native’s fourth project is slated for release on May 22 and features 12 original tracks that each pack a punch in their own way. Thematically, the album finds Chapman, a new husband and father, attempting to slow things down and appreciate the moment, despite living in a world and working in a music industry that so often promotes a fast-paced “what’s next” mentality. Sonically, the Anderson East-produced record captures Chapman’s eclectic sound comprised of equal parts funk, jam, southern rock, and country. And although he’s only released a few singles so far, it’s abundantly clear that this project could be Chapman’s best yet.
On the record’s lead single “Everything’s Different,” Chapman sets the scene for his current phase of life with an introspective, organ-filled track steeped in southern rock tradition. He followed that up a month later with the album announcement and title track “Feet On Fire,” a touring musician’s anthem with intoxicating instrumentation and his soulful vocals on full display. And now, with his latest single “Out In The Country,” he continues to highlight the album’s sonic diversity with an easy going country tune that hearkens back to his roots.
In a press release circulated by his PR team at Missing Piece Group, Chapman provided some insight into the purpose of the third single from Feet on Fire.
“I wanted to convey the peace I feel when I’m back home in Georgia with this song. I feel like the spirit of being ‘out in the country’ for me is that everyone is welcome to come and reconnect with themselves.
Sonically, we had a good time in the studio making the song sound like it feels to be in that place where time moves slow, and your worries roll off your shoulders. Ever since moving to Nashville, I’ve learned that the more I get back home and put my feet in the grass and my mind at ease, the better my music is.”
With that in mind, give “Out In The Country” a listen for yourself here:
Now that we’re a month out, the countdown is on until Feet On Fire is released in its entirety. Here’s the full tracklist along with the two singles Chapman has released thus far, “Everything’s Different” and “Feet On Fire.”
