Southall Announces New Album, ‘Kinfolk’

Southall

Let’s GO.

In a vibrant country-rock scene that seemingly gets more crowded by the day, it’s hard to point to just who’s made the biggest impact over the years. Is it Cross Canadian Ragweed and their seemingly omnipresent nature in the Red Dirt scene coming out of Oklahoma? Is it Treaty Oak Revival and their patented southern grunge sound that’s sweeping the nation?  Is it Whiskey Myers who continually pushes the envelope towards hard rock with each release? Or is it Koe Wetzel who has experienced the most mainstream success over the past year?

While all of those names are important pieces when talking about today’s country-rock landscape, for my money, Southall is the band that deserves just as much, if not more attention. With four albums worth of what can only be described as solid country-rock gold and influences on the likes of Wetzel and plenty others, the Oklahoma-based band has proven time and time again that they are a serious force to be reckoned with.

2026 has already gotten off to an incredibly hot start for the band. After opening up for Ole 60 to start the year, they were announced as direct support for both Whiskey Myers and The Black Crowes’ joint Southern Hospitality Tour as well as ZZ Top & Dwight Yoakam’s Dos Amigos Tour. Additionally, they’d drop some stellar singles, “Burning Bridges,” “Southwestern Son” and “Freight Train” over the past three months.

It was clear something big was brewing for Oklahoma powerhouses, and the day is finally here. Just announced, Southall will be releasing their fifth studio album, Kinfolk, on Friday, May 1st.

Kinfolk will contain nine tracks, including the aforementioned three pre-released singles. The record will mark the first time Southall is working with Grammy-nominated producer Wes Sharon, who has produced the likes of Turnpike Troubadours’ Goodbye Normal Street, John Fullbright’s From The Ground Up and more. Additionally, Kinfolk promises to carry Southall’s tradition of being “rooted in old school Country and revved up by Rock ‘n’ Roll energy,” exploring themes of family, legacy, loss, and love.

Discussing the album, frontman Read Southall would describe it as a collection of songs made for everyone who’s supported them over the years. As the title suggests, it represents everyone who Southall and Co. call their “kin.”

“When people are ‘kin’ to you, they’re ‘kin’ for life. It’s an ‘all for one and one for all’ mentality. We’re in this together with anybody who listens to us or comes to a show. When we play live, I often say, ‘Don’t take yourself too seriously, and we won’t either.’ We’re Kinfolk after all.”

Judging by how good the likes of “Burning Bridges,” “Southwestern Son” and “Freight Train” were, it’s safe to say that we’re in for an absolute treat come May 1st.
