Kacey Musgraves Isn’t Giving Up On A Tough Lover, Debuts “Back On The Wagon” During Coachella Set

Kacey Musgraves

A brand new one off the forthcoming record.

On April 18, Kacey Musgraves played the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, headlining the Mojave tent, where she played a total of 13 songs, with some of them, of course, being from her forthcoming sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, which Musgraves produced alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk.

Kacey’s album is out everywhere on May 1, and I can’t wait. So far, she’s put out two songs from the 13-song tracklist, including the lead single “Dry Spell,” as well as the title track “Middle of Nowhere.” Kacey will have four features from some fellow artists as well, an absolutely stacked lineup that features Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Mrs. Miranda Lambert herself… buckle up because it’s going to be a good one, folks.

Given the release date of Middle of Nowhere is quickly approaching, Coachella was the perfect place to share some of the unreleased songs on the tracklist with fans. Musgraves wooed fans, sharing her truth about how she’s tired of f**k boys and living in “Uncertain, TX,” debuting a brand new duet with Willie Nelson that will appear on the LP. But that wasn’t the only unreleased gem she shared with the Indio, California crowd.

She also debuted one titled “Back On The Wagon,” and it will be in my head for the foreseeable future.

With a traditional country twang, “Back On The Wagon” highlights a relationship that probably should have ended long ago. Still, the narrator is so in love with her man that he’s willing to give him another shot to turn things around and live happily ever after.

“He’s back on the wagon
He’s mine you can’t have him
He’s causing so much pain
But this time it’s changed
Don’t try and drag him
‘Cause we’ve got big plans
And no one understands him like me
Say he’ll f**k it up
But we’re so in love, that ain’t gonna happen
He’s back on the wagon”

The moan of the steel guitar highlights the hurt of the past in this relationship, but indicates there is hope for the future between these two star-crossed lovers. Country to the core, Kacey Musgraves is so back with this tune, and I can’t wait to hear the studio cut. The countdown is on.
