Carrie Underwood Makes Surprise Appearance At Her Nashville Church For Special Easter Performance

Carrie Underwood

An incredible Easter surprise for everyone at Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee yesterday.

Carrie Underwood made a surprise appearance at her church during their Easter service yesterday morning, which she’s done before a couple years in a row during their Christmas concert, where she led the congregation in several hymns like her signature “How Great Thou Art,” a song she also recently performed on “American Idol.”

She appeared at Rolling Hills Community Church’s Sounds of Christmas concert last year too, and was once again a total surprise as no one knew she was going to be part of it ahead of time. Of course, the country star is very open about her faith, and has showed up at church before, not long ago leading worship to the surprise of the congregation once again.

Carrie performed with the rest of the worship team, but the highlight had to be her incredible rendition of the aforementioned of “How Great Thou Art,” which has become a staple of Carrie’s and she truly nails it every single time… that is one of the hardest songs to sing, and she first performed it live back on the ACM: Girls Night Out show in 2011 with Vince Gill, which is still one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen in my life. It was also included on her 2014 Greatest Hits: Decade No. 1 album, and more recently she recorded it for her gospel album My Savior, which is unbelievably spectacular if you’ve never checked it out before.

The original hymn was written in 1885 by Swedish preacher Carl Boberg and is one if, if not the, most recognizable church hymns of all time. Not surprisingly, tons of other artists have covered the song since it was written over 135 years ago, like Elvis, Alan Jackson, and even John Mayer back in 2019.

She of course released a gospel album called My Savior in 2021, which won the Grammy for Best Roots Gospel Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, marking her eighth Grammy win and a very well-deserved trophy.

I can imagine the congregation was quite surprised when Carrie showed up, and what a special performance that I’m sure everyone will remember forever that made this Easter that much better.

Carrie also performed “Name Above All Names”
