The Winter Paralympics are still underway, making for quite a long Olympic season. While the Paralympics might not be as widely viewed as the Winter Olympics, folks are seriously missing out. The United States Paralympic team is made up not only of incredible athletes who have overcome so many odds to compete in these various sports, but also of athletes whose grit is unmatched.
Not to mention, there is some seriously fierce competition during the Paralympics as well.
Team USA is gearing up to take on Canada in the hockey gold medal match, mirroring what happened during the Olympic Games. Team USA has dominated hockey at the Paralympic Games, winning gold in 2022 and again in a heated overtime match at the 2018 Games.
In 2026, the two teams will face off again for the gold medal on March 15.
Ahead of the game, the official Team USA account is trying to gain some traction to hype up the gold medal matchup, leading them to lean into popular culture for a hilarious meme. Team USA posted that the United States taking on Canada is a “seated rivalry.”
If you don’t get the pun, then congratulations, because you have completely avoided the Heated Rivalry phenomenon that has been ruling the online space over the last few months.
The hit TV show is based on Rachel Reid’s novel Heated Rivalry. The plotline follows professional hockey stars Shane Hollander (Montreal) and Ilya Rozanov (Boston) and reveals that their years of tense rivalry in the public eye are all a facade. The two men have been secret lovers for years. Their relationship has grown from casual hookups and flings to a slow-burning, deep connection and intense romance. Very realistic…
It’s a smut novel and TV show at its core… I think that’s what the kids call it these days. Anyways… back to the Team USA post.
Team USA was wild for this put, but talk about a way to keep things light and play into pop culture. Is this post diabolical? Yes. Is it genius? Yes.
Needless to say, the internet loved this. Take a look at some of the responses to this post:
