Who better to celebrate women than a rapper who’s been arrested multiple times for domestic violence…

By now you’ve no doubt heard about the nonsensical “controversy” surrounding the US men’s hockey team and their reaction to a call from President Donald Trump after winning the gold medal over Canada at the Winter Olympics.

Here’s the short version: While celebrating with the team in the locker room, FBI Director Kash Patel called up the president to speak to the team. During the call, he invited the boys to the White House and the State of the Union address tonight, while also making a joke about having to invite the women’s team too because he would be “impeached” if he didn’t:

“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that. I do believe I probably would be impeached.”

(This was after he also made a joke about goalie Connor Hellebuyck playing “not bad.”)

Well naturally the loudest voices on the far left are outraged that the men’s team laughed at the joke instead of lecturing the president on identity politics while throwing back beers:

And in the wake of the controversy, the women’s team announced that they had declined the president’s invitation to the State of the Union, though they blamed it on scheduling issues:

“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement. Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.

They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”

No worries though, because that wasn’t their only invitation: Rapper Flavor Flav took note of the controversy and offered to throw the women’s team their own celebration.

“If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite ,,, I’ll host them in Las Vegas. Do some nice dinners and shows and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real.”

Several large brands immediately reached out to help with the celebration, including Alaska Airlines and StubHub. And according to Flav, the team has also reached out to accept the invite:

Now, there hasn’t been an official statement from the women’s team confirming that they’ve accepted the invitation. But as many have pointed out, it’s a little ironic that they turned down an invitation to the White House but would accept a party thrown by a man who’s twice been arrested for domestic violence, including once as recently as 2021 (the charge was later dropped after he accepted a plea deal to a charge of coercion).

But hey, at least they’ll get a party.

Luckily, it doesn’t seem like the controversy has affected the celebration for the actual athletes who won the gold medals.

Last night, the men’s team partied at the famous E11EVEN nightclub in Miami, where the team led a singalong of Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”

And Ellen Hughes, who is a former women’s team player and a current consultant for the women’s team, as well as the mom of men’s team stars Jack and Quinn Hughes, shut down any notion of controversy among the players:

“At the end of the day, it’s just about the country. And the moment that these players, both the men and women, can bring so much unity to a group and to a country. People that cheered on that don’t watch hockey, people that have politics on one side or on the other side, and that’s all both the men’s team and the women’s team care about.

If you could see what we see from the inside, and the men and women sharing, you know, dorm rooms and halls and flex floors and the camaraderie and the synergy and the way the women cheered on the men and the way the men cheered on the women — that’s what it’s all about. And the other things they cannot control. They care about humanity. They care about unity and they care about the country.”

She added:

“It couldn’t have gone better. Both teams going undefeated. We couldn’t have written a better story, and I hope everybody just understands what we did in the moment, both the men and the women to bring this country together, and let everybody cheer in the same direction.”

Well said mom.
