Travis Kelce & Other Chiefs Players Who Wore “Free 4” Shirts Get Roasted Again Amidst New Rashee Rice Domestic Abuse Lawsuit

Not the best look for some of the Kansas City Chiefs…

Though Rashee Rice has brought some exciting offensive moments to the Chiefs Kingdom, he’s brought more turmoil and trouble than anything else. Last year, he even served a six-game suspension from the NFL for his involvement in a high-speed car crash in Dallas that took place in the summer of 2024. Rice was street racing in a Lamborghini at close to 120 miles per hour when he crashed an injured four others. He fled the scene, which made matters worse, and led to Rice facing eight different charges: one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, one count of aggravated assault, and six counts of collision involving bodily injury.

Here’s the dash cam video of the incident:

Once the suspension for that was behind Rice, the Kansas City Chiefs were hoping for somewhat of a fresh start with their star player… but that didn’t last long.

Just last month, rumors of domestic abuse allegations directed at the Kansas City star started swirling when Rice’s ex-girlfriend, Dacoda Nichole Jones, shared disturbing photos and posts detailing claims of “years” of abuse. After the allegations were made public, the Kansas City Chiefs released this short statement:

“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time.”

I’ve got a feeling they’ll have more to say now that there’s an official lawsuit initiated.

According to The Athletic, a civil complaint filed this past Monday in the Dallas County District Court included these claims of abuse that happened between December 2023 and July 2025:

“Defendant Rashee Rice and Plaintiff Dacoda Jones lived together. Following an escalation in violent behavior, in December, 2023, Defendant Rashee Rice strangled Plaintiff Dacoda Joans at their shared home in Victory Park, Texas. Defendant Rashee Rice continued to repeatedly assaulted Dacoda Jones over the course of their relationship through July, 2025.

Defendant Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit, and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects. Additionally, he has engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors towards Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night. Many of these behaviors occurred while Ms. Jones was pregnant.”

Obviously, Rashee Rice is innocent until proven guilty… but those are some nasty, potentially career-ending allegations (the NFL has historically not tolerated domestic abuse… well, after tolerating it for a long time).

Which brings us to quite the sticky situation for some of Rice’s Kansas City Chiefs teammates, including (but not limited to) Travis Kelce and Tyquan Thornton. When Rice was suspended last year because of his charges stemming from his reckless driving in Dallas a couple of years ago, someone on the Chiefs crafted some “Free 4” t-shirts.

Here’s wide receiver Tyquan Thornton wearing one:

And here’s a picture of Travis Kelce in one of the shirts as well:

They faced plenty of backlash when they first wore those shirts during warmups early on in the 2025 season, and honestly, they should have. Rashee Rice got suspended because he endangered people’s lives, and then fled the scene without checking on anyone. I understand that, as a teammate, you are supposed to have the back of the guy next to you… but that’s not a situation where you want to side with Rice.

Now, those shirts look even worse.

Granted, the “Free 4” shirts were about the suspension that stemmed from the high-speed crash, and you’d hope that Rice’s teammates wouldn’t have donned the shirts if they knew about his domestic abuse allegations. Still though… the shirts weren’t a good idea when a select number of Kansas City Chiefs players were seen sporting them back in September. They certainly aren’t a good look now, armed with hindsight.
