Should go without saying…

I don’t know if you’ve been following this story about Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, but man, it’s had me in a chokehold the past week or so.

In case you somehow missed it, the 84-year-old mother of Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie was kidnapped from her Arizona home on February 1.

According to police, Nancy was last seen the night before when she was dropped off at her home by her son-in-law, the husband of her daughter Annie. She was reported missing the next day after failing to show up at a friend’s house for church as she normally did, and police discovered blood on her front porch.

Authorities discovered that her front door camera had been tampered with, and believe she was abducted around 2:00 AM.

Shortly after her abduction, a ransom note was sent to TMZ and other media outlets, with a deadline of yesterday afternoon to pay $5 million in Bitcoin. But that deadline came and went, and apparently the ransom hasn’t been paid, so it’s unclear whether the note was determined to be a hoax or what’s going on at this point.

This afternoon, the FBI finally released photos of a suspect in the case after recovering footage from the missing doorbell cam. The suspect is wearing a mask and a backpack, and appears to have a gun in their waistband while apparently attempting to remove the camera.

The whole thing’s just bizarre, and obviously terrifying for the family and for Nancy Guthrie. And it’s drawn a massive amount of attention as the search drags on with limited information being released.

Of course the media has been posted up in front of Guthrie’s home as investigators come and go searching for clues. But apparently somebody got hungry and decided to…order a pizza to an active crime scene.

To make matters worse, the pizza delivery guy somehow made it all the way to the front door of the house in an attempt to deliver the food to the customer:

I mean, did he not notice all the media posted up in the street? Didn’t think anything was strange? What was that guy thinking, but also, what was whoever ordered the pizza thinking?

After the bizarre incident, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office released a statement that they probably never imagined having to release, asking media members not to have food delivered to a crime scene:

“We can’t believe we have to say this, but media on scene: please do not order food delivery to a crime scene address. This interferes with an active investigation. Please also respect private property laws. Thank you.”

Now, I also feel like this is on the police. Seems like they should have the scene secured a little better so that somebody can’t just wander up onto the blood-stained porch to deliver a pizza. Maybe put up some crime scene tape or have an officer stand at the driveway to stop any rogue delivery guys.

But in the meantime maybe at least put some instructions in the delivery notes if you’re ordering food.
