Michelle Randolph and Jacob Lofland have some questions about their Landman characters, and Taylor Sheridan evidently isn’t interested in directly answering them.
The Yellowstone creator’s latest hit, Landman, certainly grabbed the attention of the masses during its first season, and it continued to do much of the same with its sophomore run. A plethora of viral moments have undoubtedly helped with that, but the stellar cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Demi Moore and Sam Elliott, among others, have also made it stand out as one of the most exciting shows on television.
And a young actress by the name of Michelle Randolph, who plays Ainsley, has had a ton of scene-stealing moments throughout the first two seasons of the show. Randolph was basically handpicked for her role in Landman after she starred in Sheridan’s other Yellowstone spinoff project: 1923.
Without a doubt, Randolph has held her own as she shares scenes with other well-known and experienced actors and actresses. She plays her role perfectly, and so well that the character of Ainsley actually has people divided. Some see the young woman as powerful and independent, while others think that she’s got some anti-feminism tendencies. It’s safe to assume that Randolph will continue to divide the masses when Season 3 premieres later this year (hopefully).
Michelle Randolph joined Today this morning to discuss all of the things she has going on in her career, and Al Roker asked where she saw her character headed in Season 3. In typical, Taylor-Sheridan-keeps-things-under-wraps fashion, the actress behind Ainsley didn’t have much to share:
“I wish I knew. I am just as eager to find out. She’s definitely going to college. I’m excited to see who she is outside of her family dynamic. I’m excited for her to be around her peers and off on her own.”
And while on the topic of family dynamics, Randolph was asked a very good question: why is it that Ainsley and Cooper (played by Jacob Lofland) hate each other?
Though everyone knows sibling rivalry is real, the dynamic between Randolph and Lofland’s characters just seems like… pure hatred and vitriol. Again, the actress didn’t have a straightforward answer or explanation… but she did share that her and Jacob call Taylor Sheridan a good amount seeking an answer just like everyone else:
“No, but I get asked this all the time. We don’t know. Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper, we’ve both called Taylor and said, ‘Can you give us something to work off of?’ It’s really hard to hate each other, because he’s one of my great friends.
I think it’s… until I find out otherwise, they are mirrors for one another. They each stand for everything the other person opposes. It’s fun. I don’t have that dynamic in my real life, so I get all my anger out at Cooper.”
Maybe we’ll find out more about the Ainsley-Cooper relationship in Season 3? Or maybe Randolph is right… they could just be such polar opposites that they naturally butt heads with one another.
