Landman’s James Jordan Reveals Why Acting On A Taylor Sheridan Show Is Unlike Any Other

Dale Landman

Playing your role in a Taylor Sheridan series is the easy part… it’s getting that role that can prove to be difficult.

James Jordan can tell you all about that, and he certainly knows his way around a Sheridan-led project. Jordan and Sheridan met when the actor auditioned for the 2017 film Wind River (written and directed by Taylor Sheridan), and the two have remained close ever since. Now, Jordan stars in both Landman (as Dale) and on Special Ops: Lioness (as Two Cups). He’s also been featured in Yellowstone, Mayor Of Kingstown, 1883, and Those Who Wish Me Dead… all written by Taylor Sheridan. You could call him Taylor Sheridan’s certified go-to actor.

The 46-year-old Taylor Sheridan regular spoke with Town & Country recently, and he talked about how being a part of a Taylor Sheridan show is truly a blessing… mainly because the writer and creator does all of the heavy lifting:

“I’ve learned over the last twenty or so years I’ve been acting that if you just get outta the way of good writing, the good work you’re able to do just kinda bubbles to the top. I mean, Taylor’s really done the heavy lifting for you, all you gotta do, really, is just show up and tell the truth, I think. That’s a blessing as an actor.

I’ve learned that if I just get out of Dale’s or Two Cups’ way, the story just kinda unfolds right there for you… I love going to work and telling both of these stories. Bringing to life Dale and Two Cups is a riot for me. No one can say I don’t have a blast doing it.”

And when you watch something that has Taylor Sheridan’s name (and stamp of approval) on it, there usually is a overwhelming feeling that everyone involved with bringing the show/movie to life was having a whole lot of fun.

Jordan provided the Landman dinner scenes as an example of that, saying that he and many others always look forward to shooting those. Overall, the actor is just grateful that he’s able to work with Sheridan – through his directing and his writing – in multiple ways. The actor behind Dale and Two Cups says he feels very comfortable in any world that Taylor Sheridan creates:

“When you get to work with a master storyteller like Taylor Sheridan it just doesn’t get any better. He really has the pulse of the culture right now. When he’s writing a story it usually just clicks into place for me. I love the worlds and frontiers that he likes to explore, and I fit into those worlds, for the most part.”

And it was during that interview that James Jordan gave some insight on Season 3 of Landman. All signs have pointed to the show and it’s cast returning to shoot the third season sometime in April, but Jordan says that they are still waiting for Sheridan to get scripts ready:

“Taylor has to write them, and you don’t want to add any unwanted pressure to rush it or get it out. But don’t worry! We will be getting to work soon, and I’m sure Taylor’s got an amazing season in store for all our amazing ‘Landman’ fans. I can’t wait to get back to work and see what shenanigans Dale will get into in season 3!”

Fans of Landman can’t wait either…
