I’m sure that’s just what the people wanted to see…
If you are reading this, there’s a good chance that you were impacted by winter weather this past weekend in some form or fashion. Much of lower 48 got hit by Winter Storm Fern over the weekend. The weather event brought snow, sleet, and freezing rain to much of the southern United States – and then continued to move up into the northeast.
Thousands of flights were canceled or delayed, and traveling by car became increasingly difficult in many parts of the country (and still is). Nashville arguably got hit by the freezing rain the hardest, though many parts of the south (like Mississippi) were also impacted by crippling winter weather. And like I said, the winter storm moved up through the northeast portion of the United States… though they aren’t unfamiliar with cold weather and snow.
Which makes this video from Governor Kathy Hochul that much worse.
The governor of New York shared a video that showed people how to properly shovel snow. Hochul gave her “pro tips” as “someone from Buffalo” as she scooped snow with a shovel. It was supposed to be a helpful how-to, but it’s gone over as more of a punchline on the internet.
Here’s what the New York governor had to say:
“Easy does it! Take it from a governor from Buffalo, there’s a right way to shovel out from the storm.”
Was that helpful for anyone? Has anyone in New York not seen snow before? Who is this actually for?
It certainly seems like more people were saying “Are you kidding me?” in response to that footage (rather than “Thank you.”) Do people in New York really need a lesson on how to shovel snow? Probably not, and that led to responses like these:
