Luke Grimes is chiming in on the Y: Marshals name change.
Yellowstone fans are eagerly awaiting the latest Yellowstone spinoff, Y: Marshals, to air on March 1. However, the show following Kayce Dutton underwent a title change just weeks before it will appear on fans’ TV screens.
It was recently announced that the series will be titled Marshals instead of Y: Marshals going forward. Albeit a small change, it’s somewhat of a buzzer-beater modification considering most of the show is likely already put together with just over seven weeks until the Luke Grimes-led series airs.
So what spurred the name change? Luke Grimes answered the pressing question last night, January 11, on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. When Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner asked the actor/country singer about the sudden change, she posed the question, playing off the “Y” in the former title, asking “why” the name change.
Grimes responded:
“Exactly. Well, it sounded like a question, didn’t it? Y:Marshals. I think they just wanted to make sure people knew it was a Yellowstone world, Taylor Sheridan world, kind of a show. And it’s clear that once you see Kayce, that it is that, so I think we can drop ‘Y’ now.”
Fair enough, right?
Given the character development we’ve seen of Kayce over the last few years on Yellowstone, it is evident to many fans where the story will pick up, and they will be familiar with who Kayce Dutton is because of the hit Taylor Sheridan western.
Marshals will feature 13 episodes in its first season, and of course, Luke Grimes is reprising his role as Kayce Dutton. Viewers are excited to see how the youngest of the Dutton siblings once again utilizes his prior military experience as a Navy SEAL.
Based on the show’s proposed log line, it appears the series will explore his trained skillset a bit more:
“With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Dutton joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
It’s also been reported that the spinoff will focus on Kayce Dutton being a father… and strangely, there hasn’t been any mention of Kelsey Asbille’s Monica (Kayce’s wife). There’s some speculation that she won’t even be included in the show at all.
But I guess we’ll find out more about that when the first episode of the series airs in a number of weeks. CBS has confirmed that the spinoff sequel will fall into the coveted 8 PM EST time slot. The series premiere of Marshals will go out to all Yellowstone fans on Sunday, March 1, on CBS. New episodes of the show will air in the same time slot all the way through May – assuming no interruptions or mid-season breaks – until the season finale.
While it is strange to have a significant change like this made to the title just weeks before the show airs, I am still very excited to see what unfolds this season. Check out the teaser trailer before you go:
