Of course the cast has got good taste in music… they’re on a hit Taylor Sheridan show.
The second season of Landman premiered back on November 16th, and the show boasting a cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph – among others – once again had massive ratings.
Season 2’s premiere holds the title of the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first few days it was available on the streamer. That number was more than triple what the series premiere of Landman did in 2024.
So in other words, Taylor Sheridan has another certifiable hit on his hands, and if you’ve ever watch any of his shows, then you know how much effort goes into curating the perfect playlist for every episode, which was a highlight on Yellowstone, where he showcased so much great country music. It certainly wasn’t the only reason for how popular country has become as a genre, but it definitely helped a ton.
And Michelle Randolph, who plays Ainsley Norris, the onscreen daughter to Billy Bob’s Thornton’s Tommy Norris, says they listen to a ton of great country music on set while filming, too.
She explained that their Season one jam was Shaboozey’s mega hit song “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which was kind of surprising because it’s not exactly the same kind of style Sheridan typically includes on the show, but it’s catchy as heck and fun, upbeat song, so I’ll give them that. But she also explained that her real life playlist is almost exactly the same as the songs you hear on the show, and even she gets excited when she hears artists like Zach Bryan on the show because that’s the kind of music she loves too:
“You know Shaboozey? We played a lot of ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy).’ That’s like our Season one song. What was Season two? I can’t think of one song right now. I don’t know… again, country music.
We’re in Texas, and it feels like kind of the energy of the show, and we also have so many country songs in the show. Our playlist is really good. There are a lot of the songs that I actually listen to, that are on my Spotify.
And then when I’m watching the show, I’m like, ‘Oh, just put Zach Bryan in here. Great taste.'”
It sounds like everyone involved in the show had good taste… so far this season, we’ve heard songs like Ella Langley’s “i blame the bar,” Whiskey Myers’ “Bad Medicine,” Turnpike Troubadours’ “Mean Old Sun,” The Red Clay Strays’ “Wasting Time,” and classics like ZZ Top’s “La Grange,” so even if you’re not loving the storylines or some of the side quests on the show, there’s no denying how impeccable the soundtrack is.
They don’t miss in that department, and it’s cool that the actors are into it too… I’d love to see her full playlist because I’m sure it’s top-notch:
