This house puts the “trick” in trick or treat.
Folks, the calendar has turned to October, which means we have officially entered into “Spooky Season.” I don’t know when it was officially coined that, but it seems like it really caught on in the last decade or so. And if you ask me, I love the tagline for this time of the year.
If we are being honest, Halloween has to be the most underrated holiday of them all. There’s nothing like dressing up and pretending you are someone (or something) you aren’t, having fun sized candy all over the place at all times, and watching scary movies to really ring in the fright-fueled holiday.
Despite all of the fun, Halloween is often overshadowed by Thanksgiving, which is often overshadowed even more by Christmas. Basically, Halloween is double-shadowed, if that makes sense. That’s a real shame… and that’s why it’s so important to lift up those who go all out for All Hallows’ Eve.
So shoutout to the Halloween die-hards out there who go all out for the spookiest of all seasons. These homeowners in Fountain Inn, South Carolina (just outside of Greenville) are definitely fans of the holiday, and their decorations are so believable that they’ve gotten both wanted and unwanted attention from the community.
Those that know Sam Lee and Amanda Peden and are familiar with their Halloween antics have flocked to their house to see their decor. Those unaware have been calling the authorities.
Neighbors passing by have naturally been concerned when they see what appears to be both floors of the South Carolina home engulfed in flames. The next-level, high-tech decor and smoke machine were set up to make it look as though the house was well on its way to burning down, and considering the fire department has been called on multiple occasions, I’d say the homeowners nailed it.
Fortunately, the Fountain Inn Fire Department was given a heads up about the Halloween display. They tell those that call that all is actually well at the Fountain Inn home, and the fire department has even partnered with Sam Lee and Amanda Peden (and the American Red Cross) to help teach fire safety.

I absolutely love everything about this story, and the spirit and passion that the South Carolina family has for Halloween. Is the fire maybe a little too realistic? One could make that argument. But is it fun? Oh yeah, and I’m always a fan of adults breaking free from the corporate mold and letting loose in whatever way they can.
Sam Lee and Amanda Peden told KVUE that they’re more than happy to go through the trouble of setting up their decorations:
“Anything we can do to give back to the community and have a little bit of fun on Halloween… we’re game.”
And there’s no doubt about that. You have to be incredibly game to turn your house not only into a haunted one, but one that appears to be going up in flames. It’s quite the display, and you can hear more about Lee and Peden’s Halloween project in the local news story below:
