Eric Church & Marcus King Team Up For Soaring Medley Of “Delilah” And “Mistress Named Music” During Cleveland Show

Doesn’t get much better than this.

For the past couple of weeks, Marcus King has been out on the road opening up for Eric Church on several stops on his Free The Machine tour. And during a few recent shows, Church has welcomed King out during his headlining set to join him on some incredible covers.

Back in Lexington, Kentucky during a show at Rupp Arena, Church brought King back onstage as the two  delivered a mind-blowing cover of the Tom Petty and Prince version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” a song first made famous by The Beatles from their 1968 self-titled album (more commonly known as The White Album).

And this past weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I was lucky enough to witness the two of them absolutely burn the place down with a fiery cover of “Ophelia” by The Band.

Well the following night in Cleveland, Ohio was King’s last show out on the road with Eric on this tour. And the crowd at Rocket Arena got something extra special that night.

Instead of bringing King out for a cover, Church instead welcomed the master guitarist to join a mashup of two of  their own songs, opening with King’s “Delilah” before delivering a soaring performance of “Mistress Named Music.”

The song from Church’s Mr. Misunderstood album back in 2015 has become a semi-staple of his live shows, but it’s even more powerful on this tour backed by a full choir, orchestra and horn section. Just the absolute wall of sound that comes from the stage is something magical to behold, and the addition of King shredding on the guitar solo makes the performance a truly once-in-a-lifetime moment for those lucky enough to witness it.

Moments like this are the reason you never miss Church: No two shows are the same, and every one of them includes something special that you’ll never get to see again.
