We’re witnessing the fall of an empire.
I have never believed the phrase “embrace tradition, reject modernity” more in my life. After rolling out the same logo for close to fifty years, the eatery known as Cracker Barrel just announced that they are rebranding. They’re opting to go with a more minimalist logo, and they are making a huge mistake. There’s no amount of buttered and jellied biscuits that could save them from this.
As you can see, the old logo that we’ve all come to know and love – featuring an old man sitting next to a barrel – is no more. They’ve opted to “clean things up,” and got rid of the a) the old man b) the barrel and c) every ounce of character the original logo had to debut a lifeless, sterile, pointless, boring new symbol.
Why are so many brands opting to voluntarily ruin their aura?
Could I interest anyone else in a “Cracker Barrel Boycott?” Only until they say they’ll bring back their original logo?
The original was only TWO YEARS from making it to its 50th birthday. Cracker Barrel couldn’t have at least let their iconic old-man-sitting-next-to-barrel emblem reach the five decade mark? If it’s not broken, don’t fix it… especially if it’s close to a milestone.
It’s a travesty of the utmost proportion, and social media is putting their foot down trying to get Cracker Barrel to reverse course:

So they made it worse for no reason. Wow.

Everything is simple and boring now

This is the worst logo change I have ever seen.

Truly tragic… and the logo isn’t the only thing about Cracker Barrel that is changing. The restaurant chain is going through a complete interior overhaul/rebrand as well.
In a video that’s been viewed thousands of time on TikTok, the interior of what looks to be a recently updated or renovated Cracker Barrel appears to have abandoned the old wood paneling and over-decorated walls. Instead of the classic aura that restaurant goers have come to love since 1969, when the very first Cracker Barrel opened, the franchise is opting to go with a modern farmhouse look.
Long story short, it looks like Chip and Joanna Gaines had a baby with Cracker Barrel – and people hate it.
@kristilynnstokes I prefer the darker cozier look, I also don’t like change.. but… #decor #aesthetic #crackerbarrel ♬ Big Dawgs Mister Gray Edit – Mister Gray
Cracker Barrel… you simply cannot take the old time restaurant feel and the vintage logo away from us. There’s already so much going on in the world right now that sucks. Don’t make Cracker Barrel suck too.
If everyone’s favorite old-fashioned breakfast, lunch and dinner eatery goes modern and minimalist, where am I supposed to eat perfectly burnt pancakes while “Here in the Real World” by Alan Jackson plays off in the distance? Where can I go get a bottomless cup of coffee while surrounded by old timey advertising splattered all over the walls?
Embrace tradition, reject modernity… and whatever else the Cracker Barrel CEO has to say about their rebrand:
Notice how I didn’t even type out her name… I won’t give her that satisfaction. She’s ruining everything that’s appealing about Cracker Barrel… and she’s LYING. Nobody has positive feedback. I can’t find any positive feedback anywhere on the internet. Thousands of comments… this so-called “positive feedback” is nowhere to be found.
