Sam Hartman might be a backup in the NFL, but to some moms out there, he’s a starting caliber quarterback.
If the name sounds familiar and you call yourself a fan of football, you probably remember Hartman as the long-haired starter for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish a couple of years back. Though Sam was formidable in his years at Wake Forest and Notre Dame, many believed his good looks helped him secure the starting QB job in college.
And I’ve got to say… he does look like an actor in a Hallmark movie that has to pick between living in a small town with the love of his life or his dream of making it big in the NFL.
After Hartman finished up at Notre Dame, he signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent in 2024. Since then, he’s served as one of the team’s backup quarterbacks. Currently, he’s listed as the Commanders backup, backup, backup QB (he’s listed fourth on the depth chart behind Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, and Josh Johnson).
But hey, you know what they say about fourth string quarterbacks in the preseason? It’s their time to shine, and no one can take that away from them:
For anyone wondering, Hartman ended up going 9 for 19 for 64 yards and an interception in that game as a starter.
Safe to say he won’t be rocketing up the Commanders’ depth chart anytime soon. However, he’s still getting plenty of attention from elsewhere. As a fourth stringer, it’s never a bad thing to have eyes on you, and from what we can tell in this viral video, there’s a group of people out there that are paying close attention to Sam Hartman.
Moms.
That’s right. Hartman might not be a hot commodity in the NFL, but he’s still very much a crown jewel when it comes to mothers who like watching football. One fan even told Sam Hartman that as he took a break from training camp to sign some autographs. Someone asked if he could say hi to their mom, who thought he was “super hot,” and the Commanders QB responded with this:
“Susan, I don’t discriminate from age, but I appreciate your support.”
Good answer Sam… that NFL media training is paying off.
