The breakup between Zach Bryan and Barstool Sports personality Brianna Chickenfry (whose real name is Brianna LaPaglia) has obviously been pretty messy, but it seemed to have died down there for a bit…before Zach decided to take a shot at his ex-girlfriend last week, after previously remaining pretty quiet on the whole situation.
It all started when Zach released three new songs, including “River Washed Hair,” on July 2. Fans naturally began to speculate the meaning behind the songs and who they may have been about.
In “River Washed Hair,” Zach sings about a girl named Anna that had some believing that it was about Brianna Chickenfry. (Anna, Brianna, get it?)

Well someone posted a TikTok with the line about the “sweet girl,” captioning it “did someone check on Bri,” implying that the song was about Brianna.

But Zach commented on the video and quickly shot that narrative down:
“lmfao I said ‘sweet’ this is not about whatever she has going on hahahahahaah”
Well as you can imagine, that comment (which Zach has since deleted) didn’t sit well with Brianna, who fired back on a video talking about Zach’s comment:
“Lmao obviously he doesn’t think I’m sweet I turned down 12 million dollars to share my abuse while rose and Deb signed nda’s. Also fyi his songs aren’t about anyone he writes them drunk at 6am.”
But that’s not also: She left another comment promising to release new recordings from their relationship on her BFF’s podcast, including the reported “fire pit” incident.

The fire pit recording she’s talking about is reportedly from Brianna’s birthday a couple years ago. I’ll let her explain it, from her tell-all on her BFFs podcast:
“We all like, sit around the fire and it’s pretty chill… It’s all of my family and my friends. And we’re sitting around the fire and he starts doing what he does, like throwing jabs, and I’m like, ‘What the f—?’ Like from across the fire, throwing jabs at my friends and calling people idiots.
I’m like, it’s 11:30… I’m like, I gotta go to bed before my birthday. Hopefully he will follow me to bed…
He doesn’t follow me. I go upstairs, I go to sleep. I wake up probably an hour and a half later to screaming… So I go downstairs into the basement of this house and it’s all my girlfriends crying… And I look outside and I have my aunt trying to control Zach.
And there’s a recording of all of this that can never be out. Basically Zach just – we’re all hanging around the fire, and I guess he stood up at the fire and just starts screaming at my friends, ‘You’re not going to be anything, you’re a f—ing loser.’ Just the most horrible sh-t. Out of nowhere… When Zach’s in this zone there’s no containing it.”
Well despite promising to release the videos and talk about the drama on her podcast, this past week’s episode of BFFs didn’t contain any mention of Zach (though it may have been recorded before everything flared up). And Zach took another jab at Brianna in a comment on TikTok when somebody asked him how he wrote such good songs, joking that he writes them “black out at 6.”
And this morning, Zach posted (and of course quickly deleted) a text message reportedly from Brianna, that appears to have been after their relationship ended.
There’s not really any context or explanation for why he posted the message, in which Brianna says “I still have love for you” and that things would have ended differently if it were up to her. She also says that the timing of their relationship was wrong and that he wasn’t ready, but that she’ll always be there for him.
There’s no date on the message, but the next message (which is cut off) comes on October 29, a little over a week before her tell-all BFFs podcast.
And naturally, Brianna had to respond.
In a series of posts to her Instagram, Brianna shared her thoughts on Zach sharing her text message, including one accusing him of being “blackout at 7am again” and claiming that she was living rent free in his head:
In another post, she shared what she claims is a text from Zach’s manager, Danny Kang, outlining the terms of the proposed NDA that was offered to her.
The message proposes two options for Brianna to choose from: Either a flat $10 million payment, or $3 million plus she would get to keep the house in Duxbury, Massachusetts, which Zach bought in April 2024 for a reported $7.5 million.
Additionally, the terms of the NDA would include Brianna not speaking about Zach or any “non public cheating,” and guarantee that the recording her former friend and podcast co-host Grace O’Malley has of Zach (presumably the fire pit video) “never gets talked about.”
Zach’s team acknowledges that Brianna has no control over what Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy and BFFs co-host Josh Richards say about Zach or the breakup, but she was not to “feed into any of it” and would “deflect and defend Zach in moments that people try to pry at the relationship.”
She ended with several slides dedicated to defending herself, claiming that she has “not told ONE lie ever” and calling his fans and defenders “brain dead.” Brianna also says she wants nothing to do with Zach and doesn’t know why he’s “crashing out” over her, but that she refuses to take the bait and “expose” him any further.
I mean, it’s kind of ironic to post seven slides about him while claiming that you’re done talking about him. I get that she wants to defend herself, but this whole thing had died down until Zach made a jab at her in a TikTok comment. If either of them would just let it go, I feel like the other would move on too.
But from the looks of it, that’s not going to happen any time soon.
