You’ve heard of “Every thing’s bigger in Texas,” right? But what about “Every thing’s better in Texas… because of Taylor Sheridan?”
The writer, director and creator of shows like Yellowstone, its prequels 1883 and 1923, and his most recent hit Landman, has long been a supporter of the state of Texas. And it’s the state he currently calls home, living in Weatherford, Texas at his Bosque Ranch. He also sometimes resides at his 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas – which was featured in the Yellowstone series.
With all the plates that Sheridan has spinning (he just got another Yellowstone spinoff green lit yesterday), he’s often times traveling to and from the great Lonestar state. Considering neither of his ranches have a legitimate runway installed, he’s got to fly in and out of somewhere right?
Well that somewhere is Granbury Regional Airport in Granbury, Texas.
The Granbury Regional Airport can be described as a “public-use, general aviation facility that serves the region’s air transportation needs,” and for a small town airport, it’s got some impressive facilities. They have a brand new terminal area to welcome visitors into town, and they boast a 5,200-foot primary runway “equipped with medium intensity runway lighting and a full length parallel taxiway.”
Aviation director Cody Mathis told WFAA that the airport has been a “sleepy little municipal airport” for decades, but recently has had no choice but to grow as it’s become more popular and utilized. The increased use led to the City of Granbury and txDOT funding a new mile-long runway with these goals in mind:
“The increased capacity will encourage larger aircraft to use the airport, which will provide new business opportunities.”
Larger aircrafts? New business opportunities?
Translation: Taylor Sheridan needed a bigger airport closer to his house that could handle the influx of his friends, colleagues and business partners. Mathis even admitted that the airport – and the town of Granbury – has been getting some interesting visitors as of late:
“Everything from CEOs and executives from Fortune 500 companies to a little bit of a mix of Hollywood. Paramount Pictures has filmed here. It’s sort of like the final frontier for aviation development in the DFW area.”
Love the “western” reference, with Taylor Sheridan having such a large impact on the growth of the airport and all.
As I mentioned earlier, Sheridan lives in nearby Weatherford, which is just over 35 minutes north of Granbury. That’s a pretty easy drive, and one that some of the biggest names in entertainment will be making as Sheridan becomes more and more in demand. He’s a certifiable hit-maker at this point.
And based upon another upgrade that Granbury Regional Airport is getting, there will be plenty of room for Taylor Sheridan and his friends:
“We have a very large, private endeavor on the airfield that will consist of nearly 300,000 square feet of additional hangar space, by way of 31 hangars. What that’s going to do is probably double our on-base aircraft count.”
At the end of the day, the expansion of the airport is good for both Sheridan and the city of Granbury. It’s undoubtedly helping to create jobs and other opportunities for local business, and an estimate from city officials says that the airport will generate $18.2 million in economic impact in 2025 alone.
So not only is Taylor Sheridan perfecting the small town story on TV… he’s actually help lift up small towns in real life:
