Megan Moroney is bringing her big voice to NRP’s Tiny Desk Concert series.

NPR’s mini concern series has become a favorite among music lovers. The short form concert features a handful of songs from various artists as they perform for an intimate crowd on a small desk. It really gives the feel that you are sitting and watching the concert from home, the way it’s shot and edited.

While NPR has artists from all genres on the series, of course, we at Whiskey Riff are dialed in when a country artist is featured on the show. Today, Megan Moroney’s, the emo cowgirl, appearance on the series was shared with fans. Moroney teased that she shot her Tiny Desk Concert earlier this week, and fans were thrilled to see her featured on the series.

“Wow, that is a very small desk! Some might even say tiny!”

Moroney filled the performance with four career hits, kicking things off with the first track featured on her debut record, “I’m Not Pretty.” The cheeky song about any woman stalking her was an instant hit with friends and remains a staple among fans as her catalog grows.

Moroney then moved into a tune off her latest record, Am I Okay?, performing “No Caller ID.”

“So the next song we got for y’all is the first song I released off my sophomore album, it’s called ‘No Caller ID.’ It’s a song about an ex that wouldn’t quit calling because I wouldn’t quit answering, which is wonderful. And I don’t know if you have an ex like mine, but I’m sure that you get the no caller ID calls from the people that want to extend your car’s warranty.

So, my hope today is that you will leave here and think of me when you get a ‘No Caller ID’ call.”

Moroney delivers a beautiful rendition of the song, dialing back the sound for the acoustic-based track. After that, Moroney moves into the hit that changed her life, “Tennesee Orange.” Before diving into the track, Moroney says a few words about how meaningful the song is to her and to her career since it’s considered her breakout song.

Moroney closes her set with the title track to her breakout single, and while “Am I Okay?” was inspired by a man who no longer made her feel happily in love as he did when she wrote it, Moroney has a good spirit about her showing the strength she has to lean into the love and pain of her life when songwriting.

“It’s proof that a man was once making me happy, which is nice in my discography of sad songs. He did, as full transparency, screw up. So this song is no longer true, but it was fun while it lasted, right?”

The happy cowgirl, when writing “Am I Okay?”, is once again an emo cowgirl.

Megan Moroney wears her heart on her sleeve, which is evident in her songwriting. Fans love her music so much because they can all relate to the raw emotions she writes about. Megan Moroney was dashing in blue as she sang a mix of happy and sad songs during her Tiny Desk Concert.

This emo cowgirl does not miss. Check it out.
