How did they let that guy run around on the field for that long?
Kendrick Lamar just wrapped up his performance during the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, and honestly I don’t have much to say about it. I didn’t really enjoy it, but I know I wasn’t the target demographic for that performance either. I’m sure fans of his liked it, but a lot of people online seemed to agree with me that they couldn’t understand anything he was saying and didn’t know any of his music (other than “Not Like Us,” his viral Drake diss track).
So yeah, pretty forgettable halftime show overall. Feel like it’s time for another country music halftime show. George Strait, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood…hell, even Post Malone and friends if that’s as close to country as we’re going to get. Just give us SOMETHING.
Anyway, that’s beside the point.
One thing that wasn’t shown on the broadcast during this year’s performance was the protestor who somehow made it onto the field during Kendrick’s halftime show.
Video from the Superdome shows a protestor unfurling a Palestinian flag and running around the field during the rapper’s halftime show, running back and forth between dancers for quite a while before security eventually managed to tackle him and drag him off the field.

Of course security is high at every Super Bowl, but was increased this year after the terrorist attack in New Orleans last month and with President Donald Trump in attendance, the first sitting president to ever attend the Super Bowl.
Trump and his team had reportedly already left the game before the protestor made it on the field. Can’t believe he didn’t want to stick around for the halftime show.

While the halftime show left a lot to be desired, the pregame show featured a tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack, as well as those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles, Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, and the plane crashes in Washington DC and Philadelphia, with Lady Gaga delivering an emotional performance of “Hold My Hand” on Bourbon Street surrounded by first responders.
And ahead of the kickoff, President Trump took time to meet with survivors of the terrorist attack and families of the 14 victims, as well as first responders.

And when Trump was shown on the screen in the Dome while New Orleans native Jon Batiste performed the national anthem, the crowd erupted in cheers as the president stood saluting the flag:

Pretty cool moment.
Security was beefed up all around New Orleans this week, with heavy police and National Guard presence throughout the French Quarter and checkpoints set up around Bourbon Street. But apparently the security in the Superdome still wasn’t enough to keep protestors off the field during the halftime show.
It’s surprising not only that he was able to get on the field, but able to run around for that long without being brought down by security. But maybe they thought he was part of the show? Honestly if I were there I probably wouldn’t have known he wasn’t supposed to be out there.
Security playing worse than the Chiefs defense.
