Yellowstone Fans Reveal The Moment That They Gave Up On The Show

The Yellowstone era is officially over.

Now that we’ve had some time to let the dust settle following the series finale, and marinate on the series as a whole, what do we think?

Personally, I think Yellowstone was pretty entertaining and enjoyable, and that the universe Taylor Sheridan has created… with 1883, 1923, and the upcoming prequels (1944 is already in the works), is quite compelling. I find the prequels to be much better than the flagship series, less dramatic and corny than Yellowstone, but overall, it was pretty good.

Will it go down in history as one of the best shows ever? No, not even close. But despite the rushed ending, and Kevin Costner departure, I feel like Taylor Sheridan still achieved the ending that he was always headed towards. John was always going to die and the land was always going to go back to the Broken Rock Reservation. The worst part about it was how predictable it was, and then in 1883, they all but guaranteed it.

Of course a number of fans jumped ship at different points throughout the series, whether it was early on, after the insanely long breaks between seasons, or after Kevin Costner left, but a number of fans on Reddit revealed exactly when the show jumped the shark for them, and let’s just say… it’s quite the reminder of how many puzzling, corny, or downright silly moments the show had.

The questioned was asked:

“This is when the show jumped the shark for me. What’s yours?”

And the picture that accompanied that question was none other than Kayce Dutton in a ghillie suit.

The moment came in Season 4, Episode 1, following the big attack on the Dutton family. John Dutton returns home from the hospital and Kayce comes walking up to the house like he just got done taking out some ISIS insurgents and then walked home for supper. Even John’s character asks him what he’s hunting with an air of sarcasm.

Nevertheless, it was a pivotal moment for one fan… here’s a bunch more:

“It’s not even a good ghillie suit. It’s so f***ed up.”

“When Beth survived a bomb point blank.”

“When Kacey threw that California llama rancher under a cattle guard. I just checked out after that.”

“The Summer and Beth fight scene.”

“No one dying after the big S3 finale was pretty much it.”

“When Kayce did that Indian sh*t and lived in the woods like a homeless man.”

“When the Duttons were hunted by Jamie’s real father and not one died.”

“When a Montana militia tried to assassinate a whole family like they were SEALS in Al-Fallujah, and the response to it was sending the cow police to murder them back.”

“For me, it was when Jamie found out he was adopted and he went and met his real father.”

“Any time Beth just does whatever the f*** she wants with little to no consequences.”

“When they tried to make it seem like John was the epitome of morality.”

“When John and Lee pulled a breached calf, and it immediately got up and ran to its momma.”

“When John had surgery performed by a cow doctor to remove an ulcer.”

“When Rip threw a rattlesnake in a box on that business guy.”

But what about the dinosaur bones? Kidding… but really, what was the point of that?

Of course, Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly are slated to reprise their roles as Rip and Beth in some kind of spinoff series so we’ll see where that story takes us, but my guess is that Taylor Sheridan will be moving the operation down to Texas going forward.

There’s also the upcoming modern day spinoff series titled The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, on the way, plus 1923 next month. So while Yellowstone as we know it is over, the story is far from over.

Check out the brand new 1923 Season 2 trailer that premiere yesterday and make sure to check out the premiere on February 23rd, on Paramount+.
